Hey guys I am new to this community,

I came here seeking help with my Ram problems.

Here it is: I have a laptop with 4 gigabytes of ram/memory. Lately my ram has been climbing into the 90% region. I did some research and people suggested that background programs such as antivirus and drop box could be causing my ram problems. I have uninstalled ALL Anti virus's and other background programs.

When I start my computer the ram is in the 23% region, but over the period of an hour it just keeps climbing into the region of 90%. This is with NO programs open. After a while it gets so bad that I can't even open the task manager.

I have also tried running anti malware software: malwarebytes, it removed some stuff but my problems persisted.

Any help would be appreciated this is really frustrating I need to restart my pc so often just to use it.

PS: I have found some threads on this forum regarding similar issues, but none really helped me. If this is posted in the wrong section I apologise I am still getting the hang of things around here.

As soon as you turn on the PC, and log into your account try to launch task manager then. Switch to the Processes tab and sort by Memory where the highest number is on top. Let us know what the culprit is if you can please.

A quick way to access task manager is by pressing ctrl+shift+esc at the same time.

The main culprit is svchost.exe which I know is system related. That is what confuses me, it usually only uses about 200mb of memory, there just doesn't seem to be any programs that are using all my ram... yet something is, and I do not know what it is.

Check this out to see if it helps.

Also what antivirus are you running? In your original post I seen you said you uninstalled all protection, just making sure that nothing has changed.

Ok reason I asked was I know that mse can cause that process to use a lot of memory. Also windows updates causes that process to use a lot of memory as well.

Post a screenshot of Task Manager which reflects what you view as high CPU usage by processes.  I want the detailed process listing, not the summary figures at the bottom of Task Manager.  You can click on the CPU heading at the top so that the largest users are reflected before taking the screenshot.

IMO, CPU usage is a better indicator of a problem than memory usage...since memory usage may vary from program to program, process to process, moment to moment...when functioning as intended.

:thumbup2: , that's what I wanted :).

Your screenshot shows System Idle process at 90%...which means that your CPU is only working at 10% of max capacity.  That does not indicate a problem with the system.

RAM is intended to be used and I pay no attention to the amount a given process may use at any one time...because, unless there is a problem with the system, the RAM usage indicates nothing in particular to me.

Looking at RAM usage per the Speccy data...the only thing that drew my attention was:

Process ID: 13864   User: Ross   Domain: GRIFFINJAN     Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe    Memory Usage: 483 MB   Peak Memory Usage: 486 MB

The figure for memory usage...is about 20 times that reflected on my own system.  When I combine that with the fact that your AV status is reflected as Disabled...the possibility of malware springs to mind.  Combine that with your use of uTorrent and no visible AV installed...I'd say that there's a chance that you are infected.

I'll move this topic to Am I Infected forum where the more knowledgeable can confirm or refute that suspicion.

Ok so you think I am infected, I only uninstalled the antivirus after I started getting the problems.

Since then I have installed Avast antivirus. And I have run scans from malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy. I think I was infected with some sort of malware, but recently since I got Sbybotsearch and destroy the problems have stopped. (At one point I was restarting my computer every hour, I haven't restarted my pc in over a day or two, and things are still running smooth)

Thanks for all your help Louis.  :thumbup2:

Greetings

I may have an answer. I don't know if this answer will apply to you, but I've seen other threads on-line similar to this one. My Windows 7 memory leaks started when IE10 was automatically installed; I went back to IE9 and the issue disappeared. Then IE11 was installed and the memory eating dllhost com surrogate reappeared. Using Process Explorer I'd see DLLHost launch a COM Surrogate process which would last a few seconds; close with another launch right away. This kept happening until the system ran out of RAM; I'd reboot and after 2 or 3 days the problem would begin again.

I'd suggest looking into using Process Explorer vice the native Windows Task Manager. Far greater detail and insight as to what processes are launching and what is eating your memory. IF it turns out your issue is tied to the dllhost.exe Com surrogate bug (that is well known now) I have a solution. It's worked on both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1

I looked around many boards and searched, never finding a satisfactory resolution. At the end of the day - for me - the issue was IE10 and IE11 does not play well with add-ons. I reset IE11 to it's base state, removed all the add-ons and rebooted the computer and 10 days later no errant dllhost COM Surrogates eating memory.

Good luck.

Hi, all!

I agree with MisterWeather.

Maybe you want to give a look at this:
