So.. the folder shows up, and the files are there? you can't open the folder? or are you having problems accessing the files?

What happens? What is happening?

No problem viewing the files, just not sure how to get them back onto the system.  I am helping a buddy with a 10 year old machine.

use the backup software to 'restore' the files to the original location.

if no go....

the files are on a secondary drive?

you cannot just copy them?

Thanks for the come back, we did the Gateway restore with the option of saving the files.  The folder is on the systems C: drive marked my backup, I will look at restore if it shows the folder.  I thought that it would only go back to a previous date, will take a ride to his house to if that will work.

Windows System Restore function only goes back to a date where a restore point was created.

The restore-to-factory-defaults option implemented by OEMs (Dell, Gateway, etc.) returns the system to the condition it was when purchased.

There must be a way to implement the saved back up, maybe a call to Gateway it is their program that saved it!

@ Old Phil

yes there is, at least I know the emachines have that feature, I used their angel program. Now I did not retrieve the files, my son did, and he is away, so I can't ask him.  Why not look online for Gateway's manual to see if they shed some light on their back-up?

Gateway I believe comes with a "Gateway My Backup" Utility if it does use that to retrieve files.
