XP Home. I get this error message from time to time:

3DWIND~1.SCR has encountered a problem and must shut down.

I have no idea what this is refering to. Do you? Thanks.

THANK YOU!

I have been looking all day to find this file and now I know!

I installed the Microsoft 3D screensaver on this computer from HERE. It is pretty cool. But it is not officially a part of Windows and not warrantied by Microsoft. This file has to do with this screensaver.

I also found this in the registry:

HKCU > Control Panel > Desktop SCRNSAVE.EXE ,, %11%\3DWind~1.scr

By changing which screensaver is used, it changes to a different file. So definitely related to the 3D screensaver, and now that I know it it makes sense just looking at the name of the file.

Earlier today I found a version of it in the prefetch folder, deleted it and waited for it to get recreated, which it did. I just did not recognize the fact that it was created when the screensaver came on.

Well, thanks again.
