Hi there.

first of all i'm so glad i've joined this grate forum.

second i've terrible problem with my External HDD.

the problem is:

i'm using my 1 TB External HDD almost 3 months and it's brand new and i couldn't let the Ex go.

lately i've bought a new packet bell Laptop with windows 8 origin.

the External was working fine some time, but after 1 month i simply can't access it at all!

before buying the new Laptop i use to use windows 7 ultimate and it worked fine that time.

i've tried in windows 7 host ... simply didn't work.

4 inf: the address bar keeps searching the device like this and never display a thing just stops with no result:

Just in case 4 inf:

1- the disk file system switched from NTFS to RAW which is as i think a big problem.

2- becouse of that i didn't try to change the file system or to mess with the disk at all 4 any reason.

3- in some time i was using VM KALI LINUX  directly from the External 4 messing around with some websites  :warrior:  :smash:   :clapping: ..

4- i didn't try CHKDSK becouse it is not available 4 RAW file format.

i appreciate any kind of help.

thanks.

again the disk use to work before, and even in some time with my new laptop, but i don't know; the switching from NTFS to RAW if it caused by unplugging the device while it is still working, or when it refuses to disconnect in the SAFE Ejecting or some thing else.

Any help is appreciated.

thankz.

Windows cannot read Linux formatted drives, unless you load a special program for reading those formats.  You need to format that drive in Fat32, if you are going to use on different systems.

Download Puppy Linux 5.2.8 and burn the iso. Boot and see if it can mount the external drive.

Can you see all of your files?

Edit: you should see an icon of a usb drive in the lower left of the desktop when you attach the usb external drive.

Okay, you should download and install Testdisk on your Computer and see if it can repair the partition. Here is a step by step on using it. If Testdisk does not work, you can use PhotoRec to recover the files.

Edit: Do not run Chkdsk as this could make things worse.

I am not sure how to do that from the terminal. If your USB drive is sda1 what is the hard drive listed as? I do not see it on the Puppy desktop.
