I have a Windows 7 computer with Lotus 8.5 on it and I need to transfer Lotus 8.5 and all it's files and emails and the encryption key to the Windows 8 computer. I do not think that Windows 8 will recognize Lotus 8.5 so I had the idea to partition the Windows 8 computer and install Windows 7 on one of the partitions thus making it a dual boot computer, then install Lotus 8.5 to the Windows 7 partition. My problem is Windows 8 is already installed on the computer and Windows website warns not to install the older operating system second.
Windows website warns, "You must install the older operating system first, and then install the more recent operating system. If you don't (for example, if you install Windows Vista on a computer already running Windows 7), you can render your system inoperable. This can happen because earlier versions of Windows don't recognize the startup files used in more recent versions of Windows and can overwrite them." What should I do? I have found some information on installing Windows 7 as a second operating system on a Windows 8 computer thus creating a Dual Boot computer and giving you the best of both worlds and full app compatibility as some of your Windows 7 applications may not be supported in a Windows 8 environment. Thank you.

If you have Windows 8 and not 8.1 people have said it is compatible. This was for version 8.5.2

You will need to reinstall the software, but this time, do it using Troubleshoot compatibility

Point to the installation files

Right click the setup file and click 'Troubleshoot compatibility'

Wait while it detects the problem.

Click the option 'Worked in a previous version of Windows'

Select Windows 7 RTM

Click Next

Click Start the program, wait while it installs

When installation is complete, click Finish and save the settings.

See if it works

Thanks John. The thing I forgot to write in my original post is that I do not have the install disk for Lotus 8.5. Is it possible to transfer the software using an ISO file or similar method? Perhaps you could suggest a way, I am not an advanced computer user. Thanks again.

Any program on one O/S...cannot be "transferred" or otherwise moved to a different O/S or system...only data files can be moved in such manner.

Programs require installation on the second O/S.

It appears that Lotus 8.5 may not be compatible with Windows 8, see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/53e6c522-4aa4-4fe1-87f8-194a0e2dd8aa/does-windows-8-support-lotus-notes-852 ,

I thought that I could make an ISO file and then transfer the software Lotus 8.5 to the computer with the Windows 8 O/S.

If that is not possible, if I re-install Lotus 8.5 (I will have to try to find it on a torrent site because I do not have the installation disk) on the Windows 8 computer then I can move over all the Lotus 8.5 data and emails, right?

Thanks for your help.
