I'm having trouble getting rid of some Spyware/Virus problems. I ran SpyBot S&D, AdAware, and Norton AV. If someone could help, I would really appreciate it. Here is my log from HiJack This. Thank you in advance. Denise

1. Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Anti-Malware:
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  • From the main Ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  • After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
  • Exit Ewido. DO NOT run a scan yet.
2. Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to, click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
3. RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As") in order to download Alcan worm remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Do not do anything with these yet!

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping F8 until a menu appears. Highlight Safe Mode and hit Enter.

4. Once in Safe Mode, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.
  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • Next to the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon Posted Image and select alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let it do it\u2019s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.
5. Open Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • You will be prompted to clean the first infection.
  • Select "Perform action on all infections", then proceed.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop or a location where you can find it easily.
Close ewido anti-malware.

Reboot into normal Windows and post
  • Ewido text
  • a new HijackThis log

Off to a wonderful start...did the BFU run OK?? Sometimes it has a problem with Norton; but you would have gotten an error more than likelt, so it probably went just fine.

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.
You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

First of all, you will need to print out this post and/or save a copy as a text file in Notepad; that way you have a hard copy of these instructions; you can not have IE/Firefox/any browser open during the fix
Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries:
  • R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = prosearching.com
  • R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = prosearching.com

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked".

Reboot

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Help with unzipping files is HERE

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Please run this online virus scan:(MUST use IE) ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button - Enter your Country - Enter your State/Province - Enter your e-mail address and click send(*NOTE it's perfectly safe to do so..You will NOT be spammed from this) - Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If/when you get a notice that Panda wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location like your desktop.
Please post a new HijackThis log, the log from SmitfraudFix and the Panda results in a reply to this thread.

Other than a few cookies logs look absoutly great....
There is a empty registry entry left over fron some (previous?) Smitfraud infections so let's get rid of it.

Starting with REGEDIT4; copy the text in the quotebox below to Notepad then save on your desktop as "SFFIX.reg" NOTE please use the quotes when typing in the name or else the file will not save as the proper type and won't run.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
"{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}"=-

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}\InProcServer32]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\CLSID\{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}\InProcServer32]

Now go to SFFIX.reg and double click it, you will be asked if you are sure you want to merge into your registry, say YES.

Spend a day or so browsing and see how the computer runs...post back here with a final HijackThis log and further comments/questions you have.

My computer seems to be working fine. No more annoying popups from the task bar or anything. Here is my most recent log:

As long as there are no issues not relfected in your logs... Congratulations, your log is clean.

First, you should clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore. On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
[/list]System Restore will now be active again.

To reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster and SpyWareGuard and IE/Spyad.

SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard are by JavaCool and both are free programs. SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed and consumes no system resources. SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It is free.

More info and download is available at link in my signature

Re-enable TeaTimer by reversing the steps used to disable it in post #4

You can delete the SmitfraudFix folder and our home-made reg file from your desktop

You should also update your Java by following the procedure HERE
