64-bit OS

Fujitsu Lifebook Ah532

Intel i5-3210M, CPU @250GHz, RAM 2.00 GB (1.87) usable.

--

Hi, I am driving myself insane trying to understand where the sudden spike in my RAM usage has come from on my laptop. Its never had this issue, even with playing games within Steam. I have virus, malware, anti root kitted, defragged and sat for ages observing task manager. I have cleaned out all unused programmes, cleaned out files that are no longer used and disabled all unnecessary programmes at start-up.

The most common thing I use is Mozilla Firefox and have even stripped that of its add-ons ect. I'm hoping someone on here can help me via the screen shots;

Any help would be much appreciated.

No answer...just an obxervation from reviewing Speccy data.

The 2 typical largest users of RAM are:  1) the browsers, folowed by 2) installed AV program.  The more browser windows open at any time...the more RAM is used.  Typically, this usage will not exceed 1GB and on those occasions where I have seen it exceed 1GB...it was no problem because the user had 4GB or more of RAM installed.

Your data clearly points to your browser, IMO...and the usage seems typical to me.

RAM is meant to be used, it does the system no good to have minimal RAM usage...it just indicates that the system is not laboring doing anything.

Ditto for CPU usage...the system works hard at certain tasks (such as rendering) where CPU usage may easily climb above 30% by one process...but those climbs are only temporary and come down when those tasks are done.

I would only be concerned with memory/CPU usage if my systems were throwing error messages as the result...or some unknown item is suddenly placing a drain on those resources that is more than typical.

Louis

Your Speccy data reflects what I stated previously...you don't have a memory use problem.  Max usage by any one process was by Dr.Watson, which is an anomaly, but that was the peak usage, not current.  Since you have 2GB installed, that should not have created any problem at all for the system.

You have a lot of SideBySide errors, code integrity.  I can't make any sense of those since they are not the typical errors due to MS Visual C.runtimes not being installed or being damaged.  The errors indicate that Windows system files are damaged...which possibly may be corrected/addressed by running the sfc /scannow command.

The other errors reflected...I can't interpret, I don't see anything definitive about the majority of them and errors involving Steam would (obviously) indicate a problem with install of same.

I guess that I'm missing seeing "a problem"...so it's hard for me to suggest any "solution".  I suspect that your Win 7 with 2GB of RAM is what I consider a self-inflicted wound...XP was made to run well on 2GB, Win 7 was not (in spite of what Microsoft may say is the "minimum" spec for RAM.
