Hello everybody! My friend owns an Alienware laptop with the Core i7-2960XM 4-Core 2.7GHz and is having a rather disturbing issue.

Her CPU will not reach speeds above 700MHz even while gaming (Sims 3 and RuneScape).

Both Speccy and CPU-Z report the same thing.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Specs

RAM: 16 gigabytes

CPU: Intel i7-2960XM

Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 580M

Sorry to hear about the power outage, Sandy took out my Power for 11 days. It was cold but not as cold as You must have been.

Thank You for reporting back as to the cure.

Could I impose on You as to what was the solution? That could help others in the future.
