I got infected with this little pest a day ago. So I spent all of yesterday attempting to get rid of the annoyance that is known as Spy Falcon. So I followed everything in the "preparation guide for use before posting a hijackthis log" page. And that got rid of most of Spyfalcon. The only thing that remains is the icon in the taskbar that pops up every once in awhile saying "Your computer is infected". It has a red circle with a cross and switches to a green guy in a wheelchair.

I also followed the Spyfalcon Removal guide yesterday. I came across one problem that may be of help, the dxmpp.dll , ginurep.dll, and twain32.dll files were not found in my System32 folder. I looked manually, and even used the search option. But the guide said not to be alarmed if none of them were found, but just in case I need to look for something else I mentioned it anyway.

I searched other topics for people with the same problem as me, and ran Roguescanfix. But it still hasn't worked. So here is my logfile.

Hello,

* Download Killbox.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".
Click the button: All Files (!important!)
Now it should flash green.

Now copy the next bold part:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrkp32.dll
C:\WINDOW\system32\reglogs.dll

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Your computer should reboot now.

After reboot,
I see you have Viewpoint installed.
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.
  • Viewpoint
  • Viewpoint Manager
  • Viewpoint Media Player
* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/...//www.yahoo.com
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: Nothing - {b0398eca-0bcd-4645-8261-5e9dc70248d0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp4DCE.tmp (file missing)
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {014DA6C9-189F-421a-88CD-07CFE51CFF10} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar.dll (file missing)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: winrkp32 - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\winrkp32.dll

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
"{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}"=-

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{35a88e51-b53d-43e9-b8a7-75d4c31b4676}]

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
* Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report together with a new hijackthislog.

Hello,

Check and fix next entries in hijackthis:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - _{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497} - (no file)

Really make sure your Internet explorer is closed, because it won't work otherwise.

Delete next file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\oins.exe

Perform next step again, because I am not sure you performed this properly before:

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

Save this as mywayfix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

I also see you probably disabled some entries from startup. Keep in mind, in case there are bad entries present, they should not be disabled but removed instead. Don't enable them in case you disabled some.. we'll take a look at it in another way..

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:

regedit /e peek1.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg"
regedit /e peek2.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder"
type peek1.txt >> startup.txt
type peek2.txt >> startup.txt
del peek*.txt
start notepad startup.txt

Save this as look.bat , choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
This is how the batch must look after you created it: Posted Image
Doubleclick on look.bat and post the contents of it in your next reply.

Also let me know in your next reply if these spyfalcon popups are gone now.

[Edit] Actually, the Spyfalcon is gone. I restarted the computer and it worked. But now my Firefox browser loads pages up in a strange way. Everything is white, with just text and no backgrounds. My internet explorer browser is fine though. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.[End Edit]

[Edit2] I uninstalled firefox, then deleted what was left of the file. And reinstalled a newer version of it, works perfectly fine. Thanks for your time, you own. [End Edit2]

Sorry for the wait. The alert is still in the taskbar.

Hello, for your firefox problem, it's better to reinstall firefox.

I see you disabled some bad startupentries as well - but according to your pandalog, the related files are not present anymore. I know it should normally flag them.

To get rid of these entries, perform next..

Open notepad and copy and paste next bold in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Aida]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\g007RRK2Q]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Media Access]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\q2gaskk9]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\Rfc]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\ProSiteFinder]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg\x3rX35e]

Save this as msconfig.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Let me know in your next reoly how things are.

Glad I could help.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
