I have an HP 2000 laptop that is booting up and saying "Preparing Automatic Repair" for about 3-5 minutes and then goes to a black screen for a while and then right back to the "Preparing Automatic Repair", over and over.  I cannot boot into safe mode.  I cannot boot to a CD.  I cant even boot to a USB.  Im not sure what to do....

Any help would be appreciated.

Could it be possible you are interrupting the process by being a little impatient? Seems to me that sometimes these things take a long time setting themselves up for the job as they might need to scan a lot of files before starting?

Maybe you have a screen setting for sleep or shut off that is interfering with the process?
