I had given my 1 tb seagate external hard drive to a friend. When he returned it, my external hard drive is not being detected by the computer, i.e. it unplugs itself. Possible virus attack...How can I recover the hard drive if it is not detected. I have bitdefender antivirus software. Any help will be appreciated.

Try using the Linux Puppy bootable disc to recover and access your important data and see if it helps.
