The computer is a Compaq presario R3000 laptop.  Running Win Xp sp 3.

I was trying to free up space on my hard drive and wsa removing some (what I thought were unused) programs as well as deleting old pics and movie files.

Now,  It seems I may have removed something important as a lot of stuff isn;t working right or at all on my computer.

Nothing will open by double clicking the icon on the desktop, Right clicking will bring a drop menu where I can open the prgram but most either don't resond or I get some sort of error

For example, My computer shows I'm connected (wirelssly) but I open IE and the screen only starts to open the freezes and I get "not responding"  I try again and it opens and then quickly dissapears.

Do you know anyone you could borrow a XP installation disk for your version?  I would like to have you perform a repair installation, this can be done from a retail or OEM copy of Xp so long it is the same version as yours  XP Home, XP Pro...  This will not effect your data.

You could also purchase a disk on eBay for $6.00 to $10.00.

try running sfc /scannow.

With the current condition of this computer a sfc /scannow will not resolve their problem.  A sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.  It cannot replace files, this would either need to be done with a repair installation or a fresh installation of XP.
