Hello all,

Recently my computer has been going on freeze streaks. What I mean by this is it will freeze, I'll restart it, it'll freeze again (sometimes even on the "starting windows" screen), after these bouts of freezing it will be fine for usually the whole day. Sometimes I'll see no freezes for about a week. These freezes usually happen when nothing is going on, they actually seem to be less frequent when I'm in a game.

Anyway I've done just about all I can think to do, I've ran a memory test and that came back clear, I've scanned with Malwarebytes, still no dice. All of my drivers are up to date as far as I can tell. As well as running a start up repair when it did crash before booting. I did however, run the System File Checker and I'll be attaching a log of it as I'm not sure on how to go about fixing those errors.

Specs

  • AMD Athlon II X4 635
  • 4GB DDR3 Ram
  • Nvidia 8800 GTX
  • M4A79XTD EVO
  • Windows 7 64-Bit

Any help would be very much appreciated, it's pretty annoying losing progress due to these freezes, in addition to trying to get my computer in a stable state. Attached File  sfcdetails.txt   46.14KB   2 downloads

Random freezes are difficult to troubleshoot. I would write down what you were doing when it froze

this might pin point a cause. Even when nothing appears to be happening something is. When the freeze

occurs goto event viewer and note any errors. In the mean time make sure all drivers are up to date and

windows has all upgrades.

I would make sure the video driver is updated. A computer will look frozen if the video doesn't work at the time.

Hi Roodo,

Drivers are up to date, and the freezes cut out the sound as well, although I could be wrong this makes me believe it's not the video card.

The only things I'm seeing in Event viewer under System around the freezes are these messages "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. -- The previous system shutdown at 4:18:59 PM on ‎12/‎12/‎2013 was unexpected."

Like I said before it seems to happen no matter what I'm doing, the most recent few happened when I was checking my drivers on the Nvidia download page, and again after that on the next boot during the log in screen.

with that message I would now examine the power supply and
check the voltages.

Hello again,

I've checked the power supply and it seems fine. I even tried a different one and I'm still experiencing the freezes.

The first thing that catches my eye was the second error.  The software key failed so the loading is going to be very strange from that point on.  Some quick checks would be of the CMOS battery for the BIOS as they will generate some strange and non-repeating errors when the die or get weak.  Then the usual memory reseat and a quick checkout of the CPU and the heatsink paste between the processor chip and the heatsink would cover what you maynot have already.  Do you have the original disk or maybe a recover disk for the OS.  The original disk would make it easy to do a fast repair and solve the product key problem.
