I just recently (about a month ago) started using a desktop that used to be my daughters computer. it has  Windows Vista Home Premium 2007 with service pack 2 installed. I started using this computer for the 64 bit capabilities. I was using XP that had 32 bit. I am slowly adjusting to the Vista, but there are a few issues that need to be addressed. I looked at previous posts and have tried everything I know to do. The problems continue. There are a few, but I will deal with them one at a time.

The first and biggest problem? is that I am unable to back-up the computer, or create a restore point. When I try either one of those procedures, I get the same error messages: A shadow copy could not be created for the following reason Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFF) or The restore point could not be created for the following reason Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF)

I will wait for someone to contact me and do as they advise. Thanks in advance Tom Dodd in central Illinois

Hello,
1.Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.

2.Right-click Command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

3.If the User Account Control dialog box appears, confirm that the action it displays is what you want, and then click Continue.

At the prompt type:  Fsutil dirty

What is the output? If it is "Volume C: is dirty" then you need to check the drive for errors. If it is not dirty then I am not sure what would be causing the issue.

See the following link on doing an error check.

Do the "Fsutil dirty" command in my post and see if the drive is listed as dirty.

I am kind of worried about the problem with tcpip.sys. That could be malware but I am not sure. I would post a new thread in the "Am I infected" forum and reference your Minitoolbox post. If they say you are not infected post back here and we can try to resolve the issue. It looks like you also have a problem with getting updates installed on your computer.

New topic in AII:  http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/517475/i-suspect-my-computer-may-be-infected/#entry3233117

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.  Once your AII topic is concluded...if you still have issues and want this topic reopened, just send me a PM and I will reopen it for discussion.
