I posted this in the web browsing forum (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/516790/right-scroll-in-google-chrome-not-working-properly/) and have been googling for an answer. I also posted here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/516829/right-scroll-in-google-chrome-not-working-properly/ and noknojon directed me to post in this foru.  so far I've not found much.  someone in a google forum suggested to another posted about adding an extension in Chrome. not sure I want to do that.

Scroll works but I'm missing the top and bottom arrows such that I am not able to scroll one line at a time any more  :(  so I was wondering if it's truly a Google issue or is my computer infected? any help is appreciated.  thanks.

also, it's an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7. I have Chrome on my other machine that has Windows 8 and the problem does not exist there.

I'm attaching my attach.txt file.  I also got a dds.txt file, do you need that one as well?

thank you.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/517215 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

yep, still need help. I posted my dds log above and the description of my issue is also here. I never got a Windows CD/DVD as Windows was already installed when I purchased this machine.  I await instructions.  if it helps, I think the issue may have started after I visited a gaming site. I know that is a no-no but wasn't paying attention to where I went that day about 2 weeks ago (maybe less).

thank you!!

Hello tobyo. My name is Oseyerus13 and I will be helping you with your issue.

Could I please get a fresh DDS log. Please re-download DDS by sUBs from one of the following links. Save it to your desktop.

DDS.com
DDS.pif

  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • Click on Start.
  • After the scan has finished, confirm the message with Ok.
  • DDS will automatically open the logfile.
  • You can find the logfile on your desktop as well.
  • Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.

Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

tobyo,

There does not appear to be any issues with malware on your computer.

The issue with the lack of arrows on your toolbar is due to a Google Chrome update. You mentioned that your second computer still had the arrows; that computer is running an out-of-date version of Chrome and should be updated. Google removed the arrow keys from the web browser.

Are you having any other issues with your computer?

that is so strange because I checked my other computer to see if Chrome was updated and it said it was?? why would they remove the arrows?? and why are the arrows on every version of Google Chrome that I use both on my other computer at home and both of my work computers?  all three of those machines have the arrows.  this is the only machine where the arrows have disappeared.  I hate not having the arrows, especially on this machine because I use it the most and it's especially annoying when I'm working on my blog :(

so you're saying there's no way to get the arrows back huh?

tobyo,

You said you checked for updates on the other computers, but did you also check the version numbers of every Chrome installation on your computers? You can try to uninstall and reinstall Chrome, but I am not sure if that would work.

As far as documentation goes, there are plenty of posts on the Google Product Forums for Chrome (http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/chrome) from users talking about the arrows being removed in previous updates. As far as I am aware, there is no fix, they were removed by the developers.

thanks for your reply. so it sounds like the version I have on the machine without the arrows is different than the other machines that still have the arrows, even though when I go to the About page in Chrome it says it's up to date on all machines.  I didn't know there were so many versions of Chrome! interesting. but I did notice it yesterday when I took a screen shot of my other computer that has arrows and it is indeed a different version. I did find something else about resetting browser settings. I might try that before I uninstall and reinstall because I think I might lose my favorites if I uninstall.  of course I would make a copy of them onto a flash drive before I do that....I did visit the forums but saw both that people got their arrows back and others saying the arrows were removed. so, there doesn't seem to be anything concrete that actually says the arrows have been removed on Google's site anywhere. I've even reported it as an issue to them but am guessing I won't get a reply.

I appreciate your help nonetheless.  thank you.

tobyo,

The different version numbers could be caused by different reasons. It could be due to different operating systems, it could be due to if one of the browsers is the beta browser and one is not, or it could be an error in one of the browsers that is causing it to not update correctly.

Is there anything else we can help you with?

I guess not. I wish there were a way to communicate with someone at Google to fix this but that is not something you can solve unless you have other suggestions. I'm still pondering resetting the defaults and uninstall/reinstall. thanks.
