when I open IE 11 Windows 8, the nothing appears in the URL for the home page and even when I type in an address I can not get IE to act.

I've scanned with Spy bot, Adwcleaner, JRT, Superantispyware, Malwarebytes and Norton without any luck.

Thank you

Hello muzzles -

What have you set as your Home Page(s) at the moment, and how did you set it (them) ??

I have tried to go to Tools / internet options in IE and I can not access (grayed out) many of the topics and so I can not input a homepage.

Thank you

From M/soft -

You may have done this, but I am just checking options for Windows 8.

Customize your browsing in IE 8 & 8.1 -

Once you’ve learned the basics of using your browser, you can change your home pages, add favorite sites, and pin sites to your Start screen.

To choose your home pages

Home pages are the sites that open each time you start a new browsing session in Internet Explorer. You can choose multiple sites—like your favorite news sites or blogs—to load when you open the browser, so the sites you visit most are ready and waiting for you.

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, and then click Settings.)

2. Tap or click Options, and under Home pages, tap or click Manage.

3. Enter the URL of a site you’d like to set as a home page, or tap or click Add current site if you’re on a site you’d like to make a home page.

In the right edge of the screen under exit, maximize and minimize is tools

In tools Print, Add site to apps, view downloads, manage add-ons, f12 developer tools, go to pinned sites, internet options and about IE are all “grayed out” where when I move my pointer across them nothing happens (I can not click to open any options for that topic)

File, Safety and compatibility view settings are not grayed out and in black color and I can access them when I move the pointer across them.

The IE page is blank and I can not renew, use previous address or type in a new address.

Question: I've been using IE for 15 years and Netscape prior to that. I also have Chrome (my default because of compatibility issues with IE11) and sometimes I use Safari. Which browser do you recommend?

Thanks for all your help

Re Browsers : Read my signature. At least 95% I.E. on XP to Windows 7, and always has been good. ORCA (or Avant browser) has been my spare for years now.

At this time I only have very limited access to Windows 8, so most of it is done by research only .....

This is where it gets frustrating for those of us that do not use Win 8 on a regular basis (but from what I hear and see it is no loss). There are some programs that will not run on 8, but we can try a few, even though you may have done some of them -

You never answered my first question (Home Page)

Download Security Check by Screen317 from Here
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If any security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Next -

Please download and run RKill by Grinler. A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear.
This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If a log is produced, save it, or post it back here -

Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
* Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
* Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
* Click on the Scan button. (only once)
* AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
* After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
* NOW : Click on the Clean button. (only once)
* Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
+ Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
* After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
* Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
* A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Next - See how this will run -

Please scan your computer with ESET Online Scanner
Disable active Antivirus and Antimalware programs How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus
This scan is best performed with Internet Explorer, as it uses ActiveX
If you will not use Internet Explorer, then please read item 3 in this post
1 - Open Internet Explorer and hold down Control (Ctrl) key and click on This Link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
2 - Click the ESET Online Scanner button.
3 - For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
- a - Click on eset.exe to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
- b - Double click on the  icon on your desktop.
4 - Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
5 - Click the Start button.
6 - Accept any security warnings from your browser.
7 - Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives" and "Remove found threats"
8 - Click Advanced settings and select the following:
* Scan potentially unwanted applications
* Scan for potentially unsafe applications
* Enable Anti-Stealth technology

9 - ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer.
10 - Please be patient as this will take some time (first time scans are always longer).
11 - When the scan completes, click List Threats
12 - Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
13 - Click the Back button and then Click the Finish button.
NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.
If you lose the log it can be found at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt
If no infections are found then please tell me -
You can ignore any ESET detection of AdwCleaner...it is a false positive detection.

Thank You -

will do, thank you

I thought I answered your question about the home page. I usually have set it through tools / options using IE not through control panel. The home page on IE11 was automatically set (the one I had) when it was upgraded from IE10 and IE9, etc. There are programs and websites (Citi Group, they just are now compatible with IE10)) that do not work with IE11.

Thank you again for your help

All of these missing services below seem to be your main problem now.

Did you install Windows 8, or was this how you got the computer ??

I am not sure if you can use this program on a system like this, but please try -

I downloaded and clicked publish to snapshot and nothing happens the dialogue box stays on the screen. I've tried to paste and nothing happens and tried to open in a browser with the same results with the dialogue box still remaining on the screen.

Windows 8 was already installed when I purchased this computer. I was using IE 10 for 6 months until the update to IE 11 about a month ago.

I scanned with several apps yesterday prior to posting. One was Spy Bot and it cleaned some things. I can post the results if that is a help.

I tried the MS IE fixit before posting and received that IE fixit does not work on this system.

Thanks again for your help.

I was able to publish the results to a browser and made it a PDF. I tried to copy and paste it and took a long time to save and stopped it after one hour, it is 26 pages long. How / where should I attach it so you can view it?

Thanks again for your help.

Can you Copy / Paste the URL link back here ??

I thought that you may have some problems, but I hoped that you could run it

If you click on it, you will see some system specs, that help us diagnose problems.

Thanks -
