Hey guys, earlier this year I made a post with the exact same issue, and it was determined to be the hard-drive. I bought a new one, and up until recently everything was fine. I was hoping I could get some help, or some guidance to troubleshoot.

Basically, my computer is freezing randomly. Keyboard buttons won't light up, mouse won't respond, CTRL + ALT + DEL won't work, and the monitor becomes a screenshot of whatever I was doing.. The only thing in the past two weeks I've done which could've caused this, is attempt an overclock, but the thing is prime95 and intelburntest reported the overclock as stable after several sweeps. Either way I reset the bios to it's original state, and the freezes are still happening.. I've browsed through event viewer, CrystalDiskInfo, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, I've done that SFC thing in elevated CMD & it's still happening. Any guidance would be -greatly- appreciated, things to check, places to look, ideas. Thanks in advance!

Java is outdated...either update it or uninstall it.  No point in having it installed if you are not going to update it, since every update is made because of known security issues with the previous version.

I don't see anything indicating possible overheating...hard drive and CPU temps are good.  I don't see anything indicating hard drive problems.  These are two routine suspects for system freezes.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

  List Devices, check Only Problems

Run the Ms Fixit at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2545227 .

Description: The atksgt service failed to start due to the following error:   %%1275

http://www.file.net/process/atksgt.sys.html , not sure what the significance of your errors is, see the comments by users.

I would also uninstall current graphics drivers...then reinstall same.

As always...with anyone downloading torrents and installing same...there's always the chance that you received more than you asked for in your downloads.

Okay, thanks! I ran the FixIt, and have un-installed & re-installed the graphics drivers. I will continue to keep looking into the atksgt.sys issue, I noticed it before but I am unsure about things like this. Also, I know people say to be careful with torrents, and I scrupulously scan any programs I am using, and download from rated places. It's mainly for software for discs ect that I've lost, do you think I should remove utorrent?

Thanks again for you're help, I'll monitor my PC over the next 24 hours and check to see if it does indeed freeze again.

Update:- I uninstalled my Radeon driver, and then rebooted. I installed the driver again and just as the computer made it's usual 'beepboop' to detect new hard-ware it froze.. :S

Update2:- Second time was a charm at installing the drivers, so I am guessing it was a coincidental freeze, but that still leaves me with no idea as to why it's doing it.. And I want to purchase an SSD, but if another component is flawed I can't expend. :(

3:18am, playing Guild Wars 2. Alt+Tab out of the game to watch a youtube video, 2 minutes into youtube video computer completely freezes. I checked Event Viewer after I rebooted, and the only 2 errors were:-

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

The previous system shutdown at 03:20:18 on ‎10/‎12/‎2013 was unexpected.

Could my 12v rail be faulty, and dipping so the PC stops responding? I thought it could've been this before-hand so I kept CPU HW Monitor open in the hops that when I did something that triggers the crash I'd see the Voltages before crashing, but to no avail, It never dipped below 12.1.

<<Also, I know people say to be careful with torrents, and I scrupulously scan any programs I am using, and download from rated places. It's mainly for software for discs ect that I've lost, do you think I should remove utorrent?>>

I can't tell you what to install or not install...on your system.

But, I will say that I don't feel the need to install any torrent program on my system...and I have tried a few, just to have some idea of what is going on and what might occur.  To me, it's pretty simple.  If I can get infected by going to well-known and not-so-well-known websites...why on earth would I invite unknown content from unknown sources...into my system?

That's as silly (IMO) as those persons who don't even install critical updates and/or maintain a current AV...who sing the blues when the system gets wacky.  I see no point in making it easy for a disinterested or malicious person...to make my day harder than it has to be.

It's rarely used by me, so I shall remove it. However, I'm still stuck as to what is freezing my PC.. I've just ordered an SSD, but I'm worrying now about installing it on this rig if the Power Supply, pre-existing Hard-Drive or GPU is faulty, because the prices of components atm is sky high.

If you think it's a hardware issue (I have no way of telling)...then I suggest that you initiate a new post in the Internal Hardware forum, indicating why you think it's a hardware issue.

The only thing that I can assert at this point...is that I don't see anything giving a plausible explanation for freezes...in the data presented here in the Win 7 forum.  That only means that I see no evidence of issues that would point to corrections of some type in Win 7...leaves the malware and hardware possibilities open for further exploration in the forums for such.

Thanks Louis, your help has been invaluable. I've ran several hardware checks & everything is performing to specification, this leads me to believe that my PSU is not providing enough juice in certain area's, and having read reviews on my PSU (a Powercool 80+ but non-branded model) I've decided to upgrade, hopefully this will solve my issue. I've ordered a 120gb SSD for my fresh OS install, and I've also ordered this:- http://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Professional-Digital-Modular-Platinum/dp/B00A74X9T8/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top which I believe should last me for al ong time to come.

Well...I believe in testing before purchasing a PSU.  It only takes a few minutes to remove one from another system (friends/associates all have systems).  I hope that your purchases solve the problems.
