right scroll in Google Chrome not working properly

I posted this in the web browsing forum (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/516790/right-scroll-in-google-chrome-not-working-properly/) and have been googling for an answer.  so far I've not found much.  someone in a google forum suggested to another posted about adding an extension in Chrome. not sure I want to do that.

 

Scroll works but I'm missing the top and bottom arrows such that I am not able to scroll one line at a time any more :(  so I was wondering if it's truly a Google issue or is my computer infected? any help is appreciated.  thanks.

 

also, it's an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7. I have Chrome on my other machine that has Windows 8 and the problem does not exist there.

Do you have the same problem in Internet Explorer (Windows Browser) ?

 

Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Hi -

Yes the "Snapshot" is a URL so we only need to open it if needed. (You did good)

 

Why do I get These results - Have you set them ??

Windows Update AutoUpdate: Not configured (you must turn Updates on)
 
Windows Defender: Disabled (you have disabled the Defender Antivirus)
 
Antivirus: Disabled Display Name: Avira Desktop (you have disabled Avira Antivirus)

I have seen all of these messages before and I don't understand them myself.

 

windows update: that is goofy because my updates DO happen and are set to update automatically.

windows defender: maybe it's disabled due to Avira being used? I turned it on and updated it.

Avira: is not disabled. Last update: 12/9/13 and it says my computer is secure and all services are working correctly.

Please download MiniToolBox to desktop and run it.
Checkmark following boxes:
* List last 10 Event Viewer log
* List Installed Programs
* List Devices (do NOT change any settings here)
* List Users, Partitions and Memory size
Click Go and post the result. (result.txt)

Please run SFC (System File Checker)
Go - Start > Programs > Accessories > Find Command Prompt and Right Click on it >

Select Run as Administrator > Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Note the space between sfc and / it must be there -
This will take (on average) about 15 to 20 minutes to run. Do not touch the keyboard while this runs.

 

Note anything that comes on the screen at the end of the check -

okay thanks. would you agree that the missing up/down arrows on the scroll bar should not be happening? I had posted something in a Chrome forum and someone there said there aren't up/down arrows in Chrome.  huh? there are on my other machine that has Windows 8.  thinking that person doesn't know what they're talking about.

 

I will get back to creating a new post probably tomorrow, out of juice for today.

Based on your questions -

I have never knowingly installed Chrome, as every time I visit their forum (I must do this for research) I always find that problems are increasing daily, and in a growingly diverse way -

My way of looking at it is that programs like Chrome etc. are add-ons, and in no way fully designed for your system, while Internet Explorer is more suited for your computer, as it was designed for it (and we still have problems) ...................

You also have me stuck on Windows 8, as I do not have daily access to a Win 8 system on a daily basis, and only via research -

 

I have found diagrams that show /\ and \/ at the top and bottom of the side "slides" ...........

hmmm, your link to the preparation guide doesn't seem to be working. I did a search for it and can't find it. I'll try searching through some of my older threads to see if it's in there.......
