I've just replaced the hard drive on my Satellite A50 (Toshiba). All is working well, except I can't get any sound when playing files or DVDs via VLC or other devices. I've checked via the search function, and there is no 'sound device'. I don't understand what has happened. Do I need to buy a sound card or can I download one? Any advice will be gratefully received.

What OS you are using since you said you changed HDD you must have installed new OS and the Driver for your inbuilt sound chip may not have been installed correctly. If so use the Driver CD came with your laptop.

By default Windows 7 and later will install most sound driver for you but i guess A50 is old and most likely came with Windows XP if so go to their website and download the latest audio driver for your laptop and sound will work.

And i think you cant insert a sound card to laptop as you do for desktop :P atleast not A50
