Hello,

I have a laptop with windows XP and a built in modem (Agere), I also have a landline phone.

I want to make and receive calls from/to other landline phones via my built in modem without using instrument (just a software)

Is this possible? and how can i do it?

Thanks in advance.

That is a dialup modem. You won't have enough bandwidth to use as an online telephone even if you can find a program/

service offering it. I'm speaking from experience attempting to do that several years ago.

Thank u Louis and buddy215 for your reply

Louis, I viewed that article, it's really interesting, but i am asking for something else,

I downloaded "venta fax & voice" and plugged  my landline cable to the modem.

when I launch the application, and dial a phone number , i can hear the other person, but he can't hear me!!

Also, when someone dial my number, i don't hear any ringing tone !!

The software tells me, that my modem (Agere AC'97) doesn't support "voice commands" !!

I don't know if it's a configuration issue, or a hardware problem.

In fact, i am just trying to use my laptop as a land-line phone instead of using a classical land-line instrument.

Best regards
