Everytime the computer starts up a box opens that reads:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\runsrv32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate this application.

I have scanned the computer for viruses and it did not manage to pick it up.

I also have windows XP.

What can I do about this? Thankyou

Hello L-A

Please read Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program.

Another thing to try is to download and run 16bit_fix.exe which will replace autoexec.nt and config.nt

This problem is usually associated with some type of malware infection so you should continue to investigate that.

Download and scan with Ewido Anti-Malware v3.5
Ewido Install and Scan Instructions

Download and scan with Ad-Aware SE Personal. Setup & Configure as shown here.

Download and scan with Spybot S&D 1.4. Setup & Configure as shown here.
[DO NOT choose the option to install TeaTimer]
Note: If you encounter any error messages while downloading the updates, manually download them from here.

Perform these online Virus scans:
[Watch the Address bar in IE. You may receive alerts that "This site might require the following ActiveX control...Click here to install...". Click on that alert and then Click Install ActiveX component.]
Trend Micro Housecall Scan
Panda ActiveScan [ActiveScan Panda does not remove adware/spyware but will autoclean for viruses & worms.]
