Hi Friends,

The problems with my ASUS laptop continue.  Before I call ASUS and waste time sending my laptop back to them for a fourth time, I thought I would check-in with the Best-Forum-Ever for suggestions.

Since spring, I have sent my laptop back to the manufacturer 3 times to address chronic random freezing.  On trips 2 and 3, they replaced the hard drive and then the motherboard.  When my computer was returned in September, everything was wonderful - blissful really - the freezing problem was cured.  It started differently, but it worked, and after losing no fewer than 80 work hours on fixing my laptop, I wasn't going to complain.  (after pressing the power button, it sounds like it's powering-up, then there is a click, and then silence.  It does this three or four times before it 'catches' and starts up)

About a month after getting it back, it shut down randomly, once.  Since it didn't reoccur (until now), I didn't really think much of it.  Today, it has shut down randomly a few times in the last hour or two. The screen goes black and then it powers down.   I suspect the trouble is only beginning.

The Speccy report is here

Minitoolboxl list is attached too

I appreciate any help and advice!

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

 Checkmark the following checkboxes:

List last 10 Event Viewer log
• List Installed Programs
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
• List Minidump Files

Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, copy it and paste it in your next post.

As a general rule I will not download material of an unknown source to my computer.  This is why I've requested that you post the MiniToolBox in your topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Is laptop overheated?

The Speccy report indicates that the temperatures are well within normal tolerances.

The MiniToolBox will provide us with the ten most recent Event Viewer errors which will give us an idea where the problem may be. :thumbup2:

Do you usually run it plugged in or use the battery then recharge it? The reason I ask is I had a laptop once that did that and the problem was the cord. If you have an extra cord try using that and see if that helps.

It looks like you may have a problem with Firefox.  Please uninstall it and reinstall it.

What version of Internet Explorer are you using?

Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and see if the problem continues there.

Double click on the download and choose to run the program.

A screen similar to the one below will open, click any key to run the program.

securitycheck_zpscfb86945.png

When the scan is finished you will have a log similar to the one below, copy and then paste your log in your next post.

After it shut down on its own a few more times yesterday, I called it quits for the day.  This morning it wouldn't turn on at all (plugged in & full battery light was lit).  It made the turn-on noise, a click, and then stopped and shut off.

I fear this may be hardware related.  Maybe a bad HD?

hello,

run some hardware diagnostics with your hard drive being first. if asus does not have any, you can make a bootable cd from western digital, seagate, or whatever the manufacturer of your hard drive is and run that test. good to make sure it isnt a hardware problem first before looking into other measures

Please post the model of this ASUS.

You can use SeaTools for DOS create a bootable diagnostics disc to check the condition of the hdd.  But if the hdd in this computer isn't a Seagate hdd you may need to change the storage configuration in the BIOS in order to run the diagnostics test.  This is as good as any spot to start testing hardware, so I would like for you to access the BIOS.  To access the BIOS in a Amercan Megatrends BIOS start taping the Delete key immediately after pressing the power button.  You will not be trying to boot into the Windows operating system, the BIOS is completely separate.

From a working computer follow the instructions below to create bootable diagnostics disc.

Notice:  SeaTools for DOS will run on all manufacturer's hard drives, but may not recognize the hard drive if the Storage Configuration is not set in a configuration which SeaTools will recognize.

If the motherboard has a Intel SATA controller the storage configuration for SATA must be set to AHCI.

If the mohterboard has a Marvel SATA controller the storage configuration for SATA must be set to IDE.

To determined how your storage is configured open the Device Manager and click on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers. This will expand the tree allowing you to see your storage configuration.

If you need to change the configuration you will have to go into the BIOS to make the change.

Please download SeaTool for DOS.

When the SeaTools for DOS website opens click on I Accept, then click on the Download button in step #4.

This download is a ISO image which you will need to burn to a CD in order to create a bootable disc with which to run the diagnostic tests.

To burn this ISO file to a CD or DVD please downlaod ImgBurn and install it.

Insert blank CD or DVD into your CD/DVD drive.

Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc.

Once the disc is created load it in the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer.

Please note:  You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so the CD/DVD-ROM is the first device in the boot order, and the hdd is the second device.

Please run the long test and include the results in your next post in this topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

I created the SeaTools disk and tried it on an old working computer first to be sure I did it correctly and everything was fine.

I tried the disk in my ASUS and nothing - computer still would not boot up.  I have called the manufacturer for a shipping label to return it, again.

It is an ASUS X73E.
