Specific system model?  It's safe to say that Dell has made thousands of different models and it helps to know which is the problem system.

What led up to someone trying to do a startup repair?

Exact wording of any onscreen error messages associated with problem?

What (exactly) was your son doing...when problem appeared?

Louis,

Specific system model?  It's safe to say that Dell has made thousands of different models and it helps to know which is the problem system.
Dell Studio 1747 laptop

What led up to someone trying to do a startup repair?
He was watching a movie on his bed and it overheated, shutdown.  When he rebooted it BSoD'd and then went into "Startup Repair"automatically

Exact wording of any onscreen error messages associated with problem?
Now the system just reboots into "BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl+ALT+DEL to restart"

What (exactly) was your son doing...when problem appeared?
see above
I have tried ECBD and Boot Repair Disk to no avail.

Thanks for any thoughts on this

Russ

Have you looked at any of the links at https://www.google.com/#q=Dell+Studio+1747+bootmgr+is+missing ?

If the system overheated...there's not a lot that I could suggest but maybe one of the links per Google search addresses that.
