I'm not sure where to start with this. I have an HP 2010i with Windows 7 that I've been using since late 2010. Despite it running smoothly for the past three years, I have noticed some major problems with it recently.
It started less than a week ago when I was watching a DVD on my computer while chatting with a friend on Skype. Skype decided to shut down automatically. I tried to open Firefox for some reason, then I got a message saying something along the lines of "Item not found. Do you want to remove it from the taskbar?" I checked out the start menu, only to noticed that all the items have suddenly disappeared. I tried restarting my computer, only for it to fade into a black screen, instead of the shutting down screen; prompting me to restart it manually.
This problem has happened to me about three times. I was browsing using Firefox, which was lagging to the point where the program shut down all of a sudden. I checked the Start menu items again, only for them to disappear again. I tried browsing with Chrome, with the same results from the last time.
Thankfully, I managed to do a system restore using one of the restore points from a few days ago. However, it seems that some applications such as Firefox and Windows explorer experienced some sort of lagging still. And today, when I turned on my computer, a Disk Check was being performed. I didn't cancel the disk check as it was strongly recommended and it did help somewhat. However, I want to be more cautious about what to do next.
Prior to the disk check, I ran Malware Bytes and CCleaner. No problems were found with those. However, I still feel that something is wrong.
I could appreciate the help and advice that I can get with whatever problem this computer is facing right now. It is something that I still don't understand.
