hello gentleman, i have a problem, just last week i wanted to reinstall windows 7 on my hdd i forgot to move my holiday pictures from my documents to other partition and now my wife God bless her wants to kill me. i heard there is a way to get the files back with Linux, my question is is it doable? i guess make and model of the hdd is irrelevant. thank you in advance for any suggestions and HAPPY THANKSGIVING :D

If you haven't installed anything new yet you can try using http://www.piriform.com/recuva which should help you get files back.

unfortunately,  i have so i guess now i am doomed to be murdered by my sweet Maria. ok jokes aside i have installed win7 over it because at first i didn't even notice that the pictures were gone, we had guests over and i wanted to show them the pictures and they were...gone. now i heard there are ways ro recover the lost files because no file is really deleted permanently from a hdd, but those methods  are more expensive than going to Spain again. but i will try the recuva see if it finds ANYTHING, thanks for the reply cryptodan

Do you still have the camera or device those images were taken from?
