Hi Gentlemen and Ladies (although lady helpers seem few and far between),

When checking for outstanding updates, I continue to get the message that the following have not been successful:

1) Security update for Microsoft Visual C++2008 Service Pack 1

2) Redistributable Package (KB2538243)

I am running SP3 and presume (1) is for SP1 only, and therefore should be ignored? Yes/No?

Not sure what KB2538243 is about, and whether a cause for concern or not. Help!

I have run MS Fixit and still see the above as 'failed' (both manual and automatic modes) in "Update History"

With thanks in anticipation.

The Microsoft Visual C++2008 Service Pack 1 is for the Visual C++, it has nothing to do with the Windows XP SP 1.

The KB2538243 is a security update for the Visual C++2008 redistributable package.

What happens when you try to load these updates?

If there is an error message please post it.

Thanks for the clarification.

All I got was a statement that the downloads had failed, no error ms attached.

In the interim I downloaded the latest Visual Studio Update, and downloaded the two previously troublesome updates via the MS Download Centre. Was a bit stumped re the choice of  files I was presented with (three permutations of vcredist exe) but eventually selected all three and PRESTO I now no longer have outstanding updates!

Thanks again for the help. It will be interesting to see whether future updates come through automatically when I initiate a 'turn off' of the PC, as they used to, even though I se that there there is a specific time selected for this and my PC is not on continuously.

Rgds.

My apologies for not responding sooner.  Yesterday was Thanks Giving, a holiday for us where we try to consume enough food that we eventually fall asleep while pretending to watch a football game.

I'm glad you have this sorted and are up to date. :thumbup2:
