Hi All,

I'm a newbie who was directed to this forum from another computer forum, because of the specific problem I have!

Basically, I'm a newbie who has limited experience! However, I've so far managed to beat any virus or pop-up till now!

I currently have a very aggressive series of pop-ups affecting my PC.

I've read several forums, D/L'ed several anti-adware programs, but nothing seems to work at all.

I have run the latest Adware SE, Spybot, CCleaner, and Windows Defender!! But nothing seems to get rid of these bloody pop-ups which nearly all seem to originate from www.A-D-W-A-R-E.com !!!

I have a HijackThis log attached below!

It was suggested to me that I carry out the following fix!

"reboot into safe mode.

Run HijackThis and remove these 4 entries:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [keyboard] C:\windows\keyboard14.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mousepad] C:\windows\mousepad14.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [newname] C:\windows\newname14.exe
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

O20 - Winlogon Notify: TESING - C:\WINDOWS\system32\UYIPLAT.DLL

I can't find any information about UYIPLAT.DLL so I suggest you go to the system32 folder and hover the mouse pointer over it. If you don't recognize the company's name or it doesn't have one, I suggest you try renaming it to UYIPLAT2.DLL for example. In that case if something goes wrong (a program stops working), you can rename it back.

Now this entry might be malicious or not. Check if you recognize the IPs mentioned 213.162.97.65 and 213.162.97.66. Unless they're for your network or ISP, remove it. Maybe you can call the ISP and ask them.
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{2D5EDC45-0A41-4481-9216-06252690B9C9}: NameServer = 213.162.97.65 213.162.97.66

When done, post another log. And keep running WinPatrol to make sure to stop them from re-entering your system"

I tried these instructions, and followed them to the letter!

restarted the pc and onto the internet.....immediately got another pop up!!

Here is my latest HijackThis log!

Hello,

Please perform next in the right order:

* Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to a folder of its own (c:\BFU).
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe

Next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window you'll see a little icon as shown in next picture: Posted Image
When you click that icon, a little window will open that says: 'Please enter the full URL to the sript you want to execute'
In the field, copy and paste next URL:

http://metallica.geekstogo.com/alcanshorty.bfu

Click Ok.
Then click execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Extra note:
If nothing happens after pressing the Execute button, this means that the script didn't download. In that case, download the script ( alcanshorty.bfu ) manually from above url ( rightclick on it and choose 'save as' and save it in your BFU-folder). Then start BFU.exe again and click the browse button next to the 'scriptfile to execute'-window
Browse to the script you downloaded and Click Ok and Execute in Brute Force Uninstaller.

Wait for the complete script execution box to popup and press OK.
Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 1 minute. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
If Look2Me-Destroyer does not reopen automatically, reboot and try again.

If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/images/lib/MSWINSCK.OCX

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
* Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report Together with the contents of Look2Me-Destroyer.txt present on your desktop and a new HiJackThis log.

Hmm, ok, try next..

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

if you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application..".
Then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

Hi there,

I did that and it seemed to d/l ok! I got the error message and choosing the option to fix the prob took me to tech-forums and to a d/l (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/spence...XPHomeFiles.exe) which I installed and ran!

I then ran the log again and here is the report!

Hi,

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter. The fix will start. Please don't use your keyboard while the fix is running! Your desktop and icons will disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, it will be ready for a reboot. When asked, Press any key to reboot. After the reboot notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the log does not open double click on it in the l2mfix folder.

Ok, we really made progress here.

Normally popups should be gone now.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: Hints - C:\WINDOWS\system32\f2j2lc1o1f.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: OptimalLayout - C:\WINDOWS\system32\i6420ghoe64c0.dll (file missing)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Update your Sun Java, because you are still running a vulnerable version:
Updating Java:
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
  • Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
It should have next icon next to it: Posted Image
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Then Download and install the newest version from here:http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Then perform next step again I already asked you before:

Can you also try the Panda online scan again? If that doesn't work, try this scan instead:
Please perform this online scan: Kaspersky Webscan
1. Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept"
2. A dialogue box will appearing asking "Do you want to install this software?" Name: kavwebscan_unicode.cab
3. Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
4. If running MSAS beta you may receive an alert that an IE ActiveX program requires your approval. Click "Allow"
5. When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next"
6. Click "Scan Settings" and check the option to use the EXTENDED DATABASE, then click "OK"
7. Select a target to scan: Click on "My Computer"
8. When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text"
9. Post the Kaspersky scan results in your next reply together with a new hijackthislog.

Yep, this final check and the log is important, because the infections you were dealing with never comes alone and I am pretty sure there will still be some files present which needs to go.

Your hijackthislog looks clean again.
Can you tell me what exactly doesn't work when you visit the online scanners?
When you click the green flashing 'scan your pc' button on this site:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
does it open a new window?

Edit - I already see in your previous post that worked. It fails when you want to scan your local folders after you have been installing the ActiveX etc.
Maybe your NOD32 or Winpatrol is interfering here. In any way, can you update your NOD32 and perform a full scan with that instead. Let me know if it could delete everything it still found.

Glad I could help.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

If you are having XP SP2, read here how to configure Security Features for Internet Explorer:
