Greetings,

I have just started running into ram memory problems.  As I write this I am using 99% of my physical memory and I have few things running (at least I think).  My computer specs are below.  Normally I do not have this problem.

I have fewer external hard drives hooked up that what shows up in my system specs below.  I made a screenshot of my task manager but I was not able to upload it and attach it to this post.

Any input is highly appreciated.

Smorton

Hi Smorton.

Try downloading Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.
. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot
. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

Download Process Explorer on your desktop.
Right-click extract all the zip file then navigate to the extracted ProcessExplorer folder and double click procexp or procexp64.
Go to View Menu - Select Columns... CheckmarkCommand Line under Process Image tab.
Under File menu - Save as File Name : System Idle Process
Save as type : Process Explorer Data (*.TXT) -> OK. Save the text file on your desktop and copy/paste the result on your next reply.

i have seen this in task manager, but in xp. i think win7 is similar if you click on the processes tab, and then click on the mem usage tab, it will list greatest to smallest ram using processes, or another click  to show them in reverse order. that will indicate the ram hogging processes. ironically enough, the ones i have caught redhanded hogging resources are resource monitors themselves and then it got better, i couldn't terminate the process...

most often the culprits are web browsers and idling anti-virus apps.

dllhost.exe

Process ID: 5108

User: Steve's Computer

Domain: StevesComputer

Path: C:\Windows\system32\DllHost.exe

Memory Usage: 6.05 GB

Peak Memory Usage: 6.63 GB

dllhost.exe    24.59    13,293,104 K    6,676,764 K    5108    COM Surrogate    Microsoft Corporation    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLHOST.EXE /PROCESSID:{AB8902B4-09CA-4BB6-B78D-A8F59079A8D5}

This is the culprit for your high memory usage. I would suggest monitoring this PID 5108 on initial startup of computer by using Procexp or Task Manager. If initial boot does not exceed or shows this same process, then its on some programs (installed) being used or launch are causing this memory leak. Some threads worth reading.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 2.83GHz: 79 °C

Your processor seems to be running high as most likely cleaning internal dust and reapplying a small amount of thermal paste would help lower this thermal event. I have to go off for now...

Do you experience slow or lagging problems? Can you try disabling the Acronis Sync Agent Service on Start button - type 'services.msc"?

It has now become so slow that I really can't do anything.  I think I may have to try a clean install.  I hope that would do it.  Bad timing for this.

I encountered this problem with my friend's laptop, I tried everything but to no avail. My solution was, I backed up everything then fresh install windows 7, and it runs smoothly afterwards, in fact until now. I think it's a virus, a sort of worm.

I have done a clean install before but I don't remember the exact procedure.  I think I better start looking at doing this.  Do you back the software drivers up?

Good.  I am not enamored with doing a clean install although I have done them once or twice before.

Thanks

Ok, just don't forget the high temperature reading on your processor as that could be one of the culprits if the possible infection did not resolve your problem. :thumbup2:
