I'm getting random restarts all of a sudden in Windows 7. I have ran a virus scan and nothing comes up. Furmark and prime95 both check out as having no problems. I haven't been able to run memtest86+ yet because my cd is not working. The specs on my computer is a Nvidia GTX 560ti, MSI 870 g45 mobo, 8Gb gskill RAM, Phenom IIx2 3.1 black edition, and the os is on a 120Gb Kingston Hyper X. I'm running Windows7 Home Edition 64 bit. Any ideas on why this is happening? It's done it sitting at idle and it's done it when playing games as well but during the stress tests no restarts at all.

:welcome: to Bleeping Computer Community Meerkat07

Have you tried using a good known PSU of same or greater wattage as an initial test? Another thing to configure is disabling auto restart as the computer may initiate a bluescreen error in order to check on the bugcode next time it does restart. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows7/ht/automatic-restart-windows-7.htm

I have disabled auto restart but it doesn't give me an error code and my psu is solid. 650 watt corsair. I don't think I need more wattage than that running what I have do I?

For the wattage and brand, Yes but it doesn't guarantee anyone since it could happen unknowingly sometimes. What I meant was to swap or borrow another known good one to check on the difference...

Try downloading Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.
. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot
. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard
. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post.

I see, unfortunatley I don't know anyone that could lend me a power supply and I do not have a back up. I just checked again and it is for sure the Corsair TX650 PSU.

Voltage
+3.3V: 3.328 V
CPU CORE: 1.040 V
VIN2:
2.080 V
VIN3:
1.294 V
+5V: 2.985 V
+12V: 4.312 V

Can you compare this readings on your BIOS power rating section? Did you install the correct NVIDIA drivers (chipset first) also after installing Windows? http://www.geforce.com/drivers Launch also your SSD software and check if the firmware version is on the latest release.

I'm not exactly where I need to look to check those for ou but if it is the core VID you want those are 1.4250 and the current core VID is at 1.432. I do have the latest driver for my gpu and I checked for a firmware update on the hyper x but none have been released as of yet.

Let me check the manual... Ok, according to the pdf manual for your MSI 870-G45 board, when on BIOS look for Hardware Monitor.

iPQAeSL.jpg

Compare the readings on the 5V and 12V output from the BIOS to the highlighted results on Post#6. What does it show?

Download MiniToolBox and run the program. Select
List Last 10 Event Viewers, List Installed Programs and List Users, Partitions and Memory Size then click Go.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

TweakNow PowerPack (Version: 4.3.0)

I see you have installed a registry cleaner which is not recommended and is considered a crapware. They could damage your system as opposed to what they were advertised. Please remove it completely. Since this is a newly installed OS, was the SSD already in the mix or a SATA drive was being used a system drive? What were the issues of a complete reinstall?

Note: A much newer WHQL video driver version is available already http://www.geforce.com/drivers use a custom clean install and or see this removal utility also.

Oh alright. I've used it before and never had an issue. I guess I can get rid of it. As for the new install I had just bought this ssd and wanted to move everything over to it. So I took out my os hdd and put this one in its place. I also formatted the other says drive I have currently during the install. As for the driver I didn't see it yet since I haven't been able to stay on the computer for more than 10-15 minutes before a restart. I guess one thing to more is when it does restart all the LEDs and fans stay on I just lose power and if you hit the power button it starts up again like it would normally. I'm not sure if this gives a better idea on what the problem is.

Ok. Please check your hardware temperature on initial boot and after a couple of hours usage. Speedfan or HwMonitor would be fine. If the added hint points to sudden shutdown, then the initial culprit points to a faulty PSU. If the additional hardware (SSD) started to initiate this problem but not on the previous installed drive, then look for threads with users pointing to the same symptoms such as this.

So it's probably the ssd then? It had never done this previously. Only after i installed the ssd. And during prime95 I didn't get any extreme temperature spikes.

I would try going to that route of reinstalling back on the SATA drive just to confirm the problem. It would not cost you a penny using that procedure.
