I installed IE 11 and it did not work on my computer.  I reinstalled IE10 and uninstalled IE11.  Then I started getting an error on startup that says "GFxUI has stopped working and Windows is checking for a solution to the problem".

I have not been able to find a fix for this problem that actually fixes it.  When it comes up and says windows is checking for a solution, when I shut down and restart computer, I get the same error.  I am also encountering a lot of "Page cannot be displayed" errors.  One minute I can open a site or page, the next I can't.

I cannot run any troubleshooters.  When I attempt to run one I get an error that says the troubleshooter encountered a problem and shutdown.  Any method I use to research an error or attempt to fix an error results in something shutting down or stopping running.  I have random types of error boxes that come up that I have never even heard of and unfortunately I have not logged all of them and they do not come up continually so I can't tell you exactly everything that is going on.  I do know that is not the best thing when having problems.

I believe my problems actually began after I downloaded a form from Microsoft Office online and had problems after doing so.  I have ran scanners and did remove some tracking information, but nothing has surfaced indicating any kind of virus or malware that I have seen.  I am just freaked out by not being able to run troubleshooters and would like to know if someone can assist me in getting my computer running properly again.

Yesterday, I downloaded Tweaking.com Windows Repair All-in-one and Super AntiSpyware and have ran both of these programs to try to diagnose and fix my problems.  No such luck...  I was wondering if there are any other Windows fix programs that I might try.  (I have also done the built in Windows start up diagnostics, but nothing has jumped out at me as being wrong).

Was wondering if I will have to uninstall or reinstall Windows to get this fixed.  The Windows repair all in one did not correct the problems.  I am fairly limited on my computer abilities, but have a minimal understanding of computers and can follow instructions for the most part, with little problems.  I would appreciate any/all help you can do for me.

Thanks...Carla

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, Internet Explorer10.0.11

Hello ybliku2 -

There are several options offered by Microsoft, as it is one of their errors -

If you follow the solution provided you should not lose any personal files or functionality. As a precaution you should always back up personal files/data before attempting to troubleshoot follow the steps in the link below to back up data:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/setup/backupdata.aspx

Solution:
1. Open Control Panel > Click 'Uninstall a Program' (Programs and Features)

2. Look for Microsoft .Net Framework in the list and Uninstall them all (restarting the computer each time it tells you to)

3. Once they are all gone, open the Uninstall a Program (Programs and Features) again and click Turn Windows features on or off, on the bar on the left

4. You get another window on and you need to uncheck Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1 from the list and click OK

5. Proceed with it complete uninstall and restart the computer (when it tells you to)

6. Open the 'Uninstall a Program' (Programs and Features) again and now look for Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable and uninstall all these as well.

7. Restart the computer and open the Uninstall a Program (Programs and Features) again and click Turn Windows features on or off on the bar on the left and place a check on Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5.1 (it would be a blue square and not a check) and install it again

8. Finally, download & install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package from Microsoft's website
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=A5C84275-3B97-4AB7-A40D-3802B2AF5FC2&displaylang=en

You won't see that error again, provided you have a proper security package (antivirus & firewall) installed.

Thank You -

I did the uninstall reinstall as indicated.  It did not help in this case.  A couple of things I noticed as I was doing the repairs....1.  I only had 1 .NET file to uninstall.  It did ask that I restart, as I did so.  2. I had 8 C++ files to work with.  Not one time did it ask me to restart as I was doing them.  I thought this was how I was to continue, so I did not restart during the whole process until I got done.  I restarted the computer and reinstalled as indicated.  The problem still exists.

Problem with troubleshooting is still present.  I ran a troubleshooter on my printer.  This is what happened.  Troubleshooter ran as if it were working.  An error box popped up The dialect is:

An error occurred while troubleshooting.

An unexpected error has occurred and the troubleshooting wizard can't continue.

**At this time I clicked advanced details.***

View error details says

Package ID:  Device Center Diagnostics

Path:  Unknown

Error Code:  0x80070002

Source:  Engine

User:  YBLIKU2\user

Context:  Elevated

I don't know if this will help in figuring out what to do next, but thought it must mean something and hopefully will be something useful.

Thank you, Carla/ybliku2

Also wondering if I should try uninstalling all those things again and trying that solution over again.

Hi -

That last post did find a bit for me .....

You may not see these versions in Programs, but this is why I ask for details
.NET Frameworks installed ..............
v4.0 Client - v3.5 SP1 - v3.0 SP2 - v2.0 SP2

Please check your system for Windows Updates, and see if any are there (Express only)

Now one potential problem, as I think you use this Hewlett-Packard 306B Notebook quite often.

Quote from the report text -

Status: Good
Temperature: 57 °C
Temperature Range: Bad (greater than 55 °C)

On average these (notebooks) will operate around the 45°C to 50°C and rarely go above this, unless they are operated in dusty (carpeted) or confined (no / blocked air intake) areas -

The component report is generally Good, but then to find a very high temperature report, this can alter the results. I still think there is very little wrong with it, but if you can get some low pressure air to blow into the fan area, and follow with a bit of "VERY light" shaking or suction to see if this problem is sticky / dusty fans.

Try not to use "High Pressure" air blowers (Unregulated tyre pumping) or severe (direct home vaccuum cleaner) suction.

This will help to some extent, plus a bit more below ---------

Run System File Check from an Elevated Command Prompt
1. Open Elevated Command Prompt as per directions
2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter (note the space between c and / it must be there)
3. (On average). This should not take longer than 20 minutes to finish
4 NOTE : Do not touch the keyboard while this is running.

Thank You -

I ended up taking my computer back to the original.  Now I only have one thing to deal with.  It boots up and wants an admin password.  Somehow it got set to 1 as the password on boot up.  Do you have any idea how to get rid of this.  I think the exact syntax is "Enter an administrative password or Power On Password.  Thanks

Hi -

There should not be a reason for wanting a password unless you had set one.

I put one on my Winwows 7 laptop, but removed because it was always a pain logging on.

Have you ever set, or used, a password for this unit, or is this just a never seen thing ??

I will search Hewlett-Packard 306B Notebook to see if it is the same as my Toshiba settings, and post back later -

Thanks -

Hi Carla -

I was not able to find any specific reason for your HP needing a password to start ??

I tested a few things on mine by resetting and then removing a Windows log on password.

In the Search box under the Start Orb, type Change Windows Password.

You should get several options to choose from, and among these you will find a way to Cancel or Remove any current password.

Try for a few minutes and I am sure that you can remove it -

Also Windows Version of this =>

Change your Windows password

Thanks -
