just took on a little project. I decided today would be a good to clean up my exchange database want to export to pst. Need a 32 bit OS running outlook. so I pulled and old machine from the graveyard...
booted to a hal.dll error so I attempted to fix that but it failed then went to check the disk itself and that didn't go so well either. I have a feeling that the drive is shot but I keep plugging away while I go about out other tasks, in any case..
Ran a chkdsk and it got to 11% and then stalled with no HD light indication for 2 hours. So I powered it down and did chkdsk :c /r and it got to 25% before it stopped again no indication from the HD light. wonder if I should just punt on trying to save this machine. If I had another machine that was 32bit and had outlook installed I would just stick this thing back in the graveyard..
Thoughts on if this thing is shot - If I shut the machine down after using the /r command am I doing further damage?
