lets get the basics out of the way first!

OS: XP Pro 32-bit SP3

CPU: AMD Athlon XP

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Evening partygoers!

You have the basics, when I go to watch videos that are streaming the video stutters. I have installed the latest updates for the NVIDIA. Video that is saved DOES NOT stutter. Also one important note is that I have done a clean install on this pc. The stuttering video is the last kink I need to work out to have the pc ready to go. I do have adobe installed. I did install speedbit video accelerator to hopefully fix the problem but it didn't. All of my XP updates are current.

Thanks in advance for your help

My apologies for lack of feedback...sometimes I lose track of the various topics and posts :scratchhead: .

I was originally waiting for the requested snapshot link, using Speccy, which I requested.  It's far more useful than any other data that I could have requested and making guesses just based on error reports is acceptable when it's the only alternative but I prefer more than that.  If you can follow the provided directions and post the link to the snapshot, I'd appreciate it.

I was mistaken and that it was just a online streaming problem. I had been testing my pc's ability to play video on a 4 minute music video I have. In the process of this I tried a full length movie and had the problem as well. Either audio was lagging (windows media player) or the whole thing sputtered and lagged,,(vlc).

I hope the attachment is correct. I am pondering if my video card might be bad, but I don't want to go that far down the road yet.

I put in a new gpu but it was a no go. my pc didn't even recognize it (screen was black-and I know the gpu works), so I put the old one back in and am still on the mission to fix my current problem.

Well...if that's true, I think it points to a hardware problem, not an O/S problem.

The 5200 dates back quite some time, back to DX 7.(2003).

You are using onboard audio.

You have 2GB RAM installed.

On older motherboards...onboard audio was normally CPU-intensive...which is why PCI soundcards became very popular.  The stuttering you describe was common...I experienced on whatever system I had at that time and overcame it by installing a Turtle Beach soundcard in empty PCI slot.

A cheap soundcard would be the quick fix for that problem....but the basic problem is that your system wasn't made to do what you want.  I understand using it because it works...but you cannot treat it like anything other than a system with components 10 years old, IMO.

an update on my pc. the video that I was using as a basis that everything on my pc as far as video play was a 4 min. music video. Well, when I go to play a movie ( with media player the audio lags) with VLC player ( everything stutters and putters). Plus my screen when I am using IE8 lags when I am scrolling up and down.

So, a 4 minute music video works, and google chrome has no lag-everything else still sucks.
