I have been using (?) a computer for some time but when the powers that be change(upgrade) the systems and programs I am at a loss.   I am 84 years old, a widow, and play a lot of solitaire on the computer.  I use the computer to keep in touch with my family and that is about it.  Maybe you can help me with an irritating problem I have. My computer uses Vista and most of the time it does well, but  lately I get a notice that Java has an update.  When I try to load it I fnd I already have the update.  At the bottom of the screen the message appears whenever I turn on my computer although I close the notice each time.

Hi Graylady.  I think you should post this in the "Am I infected" forum.  You might get someone to help you with the java issue. :)

Welcome to bleeping computer.  I'm rather new here myself.
