Dear Forum

My work PC seems to be running slow, I think it might be running to many programs at startup.  I would like any information on creating the lightest start up possible.  I have searched for a link I used to use regarding this but can't seem to find it.  I'm running windows 7.  Any help to point me in the right direction would be great.

My overall goal is to free up my Computer so I get better voice recognition from my Dragan Speak Software.

Try going to Start-Type in msconfig in the search box- hit enter.

Go to the Startup tab and disable/uncheck any programs that you no longer need running at startup.

Also download autoruns from here. Install it then go to the Logon tab and verify that what you unchecked in Msconfig matches up to what it says in Autoruns.

Alternatively you could do it all from Autoruns and not mess with msconfig.

Everything looks good as far as program wise goes. You don't have any unnecessary programs that I can tell. Have you tried the steps that I suggested in post #3 to see if it speeds up your boot time and overall performance?

Data On Browser Errors

Data On Netlogon Errors

SideBySide errors in Event Viewer...seem to be related to having either inappropriate (or possibly damaged) versions of Visual C+ installed.  Beyond that, I cannot explain or guess any further what the significance and/or cure for SideBySide errors might be.

If you want to manage startups (which does not appear to be a problem, IMO...then you need to install/use a startup manager such as Autoruns For Windows..  This tool provides comprehensive information about ALL Items which begin at startup, including drivers and Microsoft Windows functions.  The Logon tab reflects the typical "startup" programs.

You may want to take a look at browser add-ons as a contributor to your seeming browser connectivity problems.

Chris,

I did what you suggested and there were no programs running from start up that were unnecessary.  Or at least that I could see.

Louis,

Thanks for your feedback.  Lastly do you know of a website that shows what windows 7 programs can be changed from auto to Manual or even disabled. Months ago I remember clicking a link from one of the forum pages to a web site that showed how to create a "light" startup.

The Black Spider website is the only one that I've visited which even vaguely fits your description...and it really only lists Windows processes.

Depending on how you use your machine a RAM upgrade might be nice, if it is a possibilty.  Windows 7 will run on 4GB, but you'll be much happier with 8GB.

While I know it used to be the case, in the Windows 9x days, I have been unable to verify if having too many files on your desktop affects performance.  Per this link - http://windows.about.com/od/tipsandadvice/qt/cleandt.htm and many more like it out on the web your desktop is loaded into RAM which would cause excessive swap activity on your drive.  Unfortunately I cannot say absolutely that this is still the case or if it is one of those that's the way it has always been things that just keeps getting passed down.
