I have a used Latitude D600 XP Pro which I got from a business.  New owners of the business can't help me.  A couple of times in the last 2 months my screen showed the message "This computer is locked.  Need Administrator to open."   I was lucky in that I simply turned the power off, and when I rebooted all was okay both times. I've wondered what I COULD do if next time that didn't work.  Without giving away secrets, could anyone give me a clue as to who I could contact, what to do.  I've absolutely no background in computing so know you'd be explaining to an almost blank slate, but a referral to someone who has ability AND permission to help me would be so appreciated.  I am, of course, hoping to never see that message again, but...

Found Quietman7's post of 30 October.  Will try that first.  Thanks for providing a reference!

Hamluis, thanks so much.  Your reference had what I know will be a lot of help.   I've read "forgotten password"  but nothing on "never knew administrator password".  I have your info safely put away in case.  You're most kind.
