I apologize...  I am sure this will be the WRONG place to post this but I wanted to get my question out there before I head out to the store...

A friend of mine just posted on facebook that their daughter was going through the pictures on her(the mother's) computer and a LOT of the pictures are corrupted.
I'm wondering how this happens and if there is anything that can be done to save or restore any of them.

I can find out more details later as to OS and such.
Anyway... I wanted to start a topic NOW because when I get back from my errands in town I might have forgotten.  :/

Edit:  Still on my way out the door... ha...  Just got a reply from her on facebook saying
"A lot of my scanned school stuff has mysteriously been corrupted as well"

She also mentioned she bought the laptop at walmart 2 years ago and it has acted weird since she bought it.  I'm going to see if I can take a look at it.

I didn't hear back on the OS but 2 years ago... I'm guess windows 7.

I would be inclined to suspect malware. Run a Malwarebytes scan and see what it comes up with, you can download it from here :

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
