how to remove a virus in boot sector of HD.

i have got the blue screen of death...removed hd and had someone check it..we found that is has a virus in the boot sector....is the only way to fix this, is formating hd and reinstall windows 7?

If you are running an AV program, I'm amazed it didn't catch it. If you aren't, install one and it will clean it up. Boot sector viruses are very common. The other problem with them is that they infect everything attached to the system, including USB sticks. Make sure you test all such media with the AV program.


If you do burn such a rescue disk, DO NOT burn it on your system, but on another, known clean, machine.
