My WIndows Vista Machine can't find boot manager and therefore won't boot up at all.

I sent off for a new CD that is bootable with Windows Vista taht will allow repair but it won't allow repair because it can't see the OS on the hard drive. I don't think the hard drive can be seen. I tried to load drivers from a driver recovery disk but that didn't work either. The best I can do is get to the WIndows Install page but I don't Install because I don't want to lose all the data and pictures. I also read some one else did this and it didn't install because it didn't see the hard drive.

I am thinking I will take the hard drive out of the laptop and place it in an old usb shell for an external hard drive ( or buy a new one to get all the files off of it) then I can go about re-formating and re-loading the software.

Before I go that route, I thought I would see if the really smart computerists on this forum might have better ideas.

Let me know what to do and I will be responsive as I can with my schedule.

Thanks!
