I'm just trying to use File History and have ran into a couple of errors -

I'm not sure why this is, I think that I plugged this drive in and started messing around with thing's a week or so back but I can't remember this error message and I'm not too sure what I'm meant to do to troubleshoot it. I've formatted the drive.

cheers

Did you plug the drive in a front or rear USB?

You never mentioned it was on a laptop. If it is try another USB. On a laptop you have USBs that are controlled via a 3rd party driver like Marvel and then you have ones controlled by the chipset either Intel or AMD. Generally only one of them is controlled by the chipset. Try a different USB. File backups can be finicky with third party hardware.

What do you mean with third party hard ware? A third party drive...? (Surely everyone uses third party drives?)

I don't understand why different USB ports should make a difference...

What has happened though : the drive that I used (and that file history is looking for OS:(G)) has (somehow) changed to OS:(H)

I don't really understand how that's happened.

Hi

If it is a changed drive letter issue, it can be easily fixed via "disk management". What you need to do is open disk management and change the dive letter of "OS: (H)" to "OS:(G).

I think it might have something to do with the Config files :

going to delete these files and see if that helps.

Hi

I only have very little experience with "Windows 8" so i am not sure what is causing the issue. Please try suggested answers from the below threads.

OK, well If anyone else is familiar with file history  that would be great, I have moved the config files and tried to set file history up with a different drive but I'm still getting errors :
