I've recently just bought a laptop, Samsung Series 3, brand new. No obvious problems. Just ran the windows disk-check and it fixed a few files.

I'm not a fan of windows 8 so I'm downgrading to windows 7 using the installation CD. The problem is that when I try to install it through the OS I get an "unexpected error" after pressing 'install'. When I try starting the CD from boot I get an error message saying that system32/winload.efi is missing or has errors (status 0xc000000f).

To see if the CD was the problem, I tried it in the desktop PC which also runs windows 8 and had no problems getting to the partitioning stage of installation through the OS. I'm yet to try from boot.

Some extra info - yeah you guessed it, it's a torrented DVD. I've tried two different torrents - the first one would shut the laptop down before the files were extracted. When creating a new partition through this it mentioned something about having the partitions in a bad order which might lead to some problems (there's about 6 partitions). The second causes the problems I mentioned above

Help would be greatly appreciated :)

Before anyone will continue to assist you, please use a fully legitimate and legally acquired installation CD for Windows 7.

Pirating or torrenting illegal versions of Windows is against the law, and is not tolerated here.

From the forum rules:

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.
