Hi all. I recently did a clean install of my computer, and stupidly forgot to check that I had written down all game codes. I know that the game stores the key in the registry when it is installed. I have a backup from several months ago, and I know the game codes are in there somewhere, but how do I access the registry in a backup? After the clean install, I didn't install the backup. I treated my laptop like it had just come out of the box, and installed a small number of programmes I use regularly. The backup (on a harddrive) is basically a long list of compressed folders. So how do I access the registry to find the game key? (Infuriatingly, I have the game case but managed to lose the booklet  :scratchhead: )

Thanks in advance.

Info:

- Running Vista Home Basic, 32-bit

- Compaq Presario, HP

- Game key for Sims 3 stuff-pack

- Back up programme: standard Windows backup, onto an external harddrive

Even if you find it, it will be encrypted. Just download a key generator or use a key finding program like Magic Jellybean.
