Hey guys, looking for a bit of advice. It's time to upgrade my system, but I don't need everything new. Pic is what I was planning to purchase, because the intent is to eventually upgrade to two R9 280s.

Here's the current set up:
Asus M4A88TD-V EVO USB3
Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
Patriot G Series Sector 5 4GB x3
Radeon HD 6850
WD Caviar Black 1TB
WD Green 3TB
SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze
NXZT Zero 2

Advice? I'm trying to stay below $850-$900 if I can.

Since you already have some equipment, are you going to reuse anything?  Have you considered getting a single R9 290X?  A single card with some games may be all you need.

Yeah I kinda forgot the 290X had just come out. The plan was to to only upgrade the bits in the picture too.

Go for the CPU and motherboard first as there wont be much changes but wait on the 290X as more variants of it will be released sometime in November or December.

So is my GPU a bit more powerful than I realize?
