Ay up Midduk’s…

I have “Windows ME”

? Is it safe to do a restore to the beginning of the month after a tune up, clean and defrag on my PC today. I have one day before the point where I last tuned up my PC before it drops of the end. :flowers:

The reason for this question is that this didn’t happen on the last clean up; therefore this problem has happened sometime between then and today. I’ve suffered the usual amount of “Bill Gates” crashes for the month and scandisk has put them right, along with “Microsoft Registry Clean Fix Error’s”…

This time when I switched on into safe mode, “Windows Help” stalled on start up with the error message 2147143679 report this to Microsoft…

Hi dc3

I have started to read that link, but most of it was too technical for me... I end up here...

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyo...%2fdefault.aspx

I'm now down loading this "Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (SP8) for Windows 95/98/NT 4.0 (KB829558)" at the moment?

Will wait for instructions

Regards

If you're going to do a System Restore, do not install anything first. Whatever you install will be useless after the restore. It will return your system to an earlier time, and registry entries made after that time will no longer be there.

Defragmenting has no effect on System Restore. When cleaning your system, it is not recommended that you use registry cleaners because they can do harm. Normal Windows cleanup should not harm anything.

After trying to get my head around the above link  I decided to Restore my PC but sadly it crashed with a blue screen error that went black and locked up before I could write down the message :flowers:

On Re-Booting with fingers crossed in safe mode I got "System Restore was unsuccessful" and the PC appeared to hang. When I pressed enter ScanDisk kicked in and found the following

I'm kind of up and running but I still have the same error 2147143679

After reading all those links after searching the error message in bold...

I finally managed to solve the "Help" error in "Safe Mode" by the following.

There are two steps to follow...

(For error numbers 2147143679 , 2147467259 or 2147024891)
Install latest version of MDAC (Microsoft Data Access Components).
http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm

Direct link Here

At first this was unsuccessful as it required me to verify my version of "Windows ME" I was given a "Invalid System" As this was re-installed by my local repair shop I couldn't believe this, therefore I had several attempts. Then I notice another window in my tray, after clicking all the windows I did find a valid code that was underneath the :inlove: "Invalid System" window?

After copying this valid code dowloading "MDAC" running the program, letting it re-boot my system.
Nothing appeared to be different.

I shutdown, and re-booted in "Safe Mode" and all was fixed :flowers:
