After removing PC Optimizer from my desktop I can't get on the internet. The message I get is UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE PROXY SERVER, and that my system is configured to use a proxy, but Google Chrome can't connect to it. My diagnostic says "Not all base service providers entries could be found in the Winsock catalogue. A reset is needed."

The internet was working before I removed the unwanted browsers. It's working on my other devices.

Thanks

Thanks. I'm still getting the same message. I've tried it several times. Even tried the slightly different version from the Microsoft support page. I see that it also says HTTPS Error 12029 can't.connect to Microsoft.com aor passport.net

Try Google Chrome/Settings/Show Advanced settings/Network/Change Proxy settings/LAN Settings/ Uncheck 'Use a Proxy Server'

This has worked for me when my settings have been altered by programs, without my consent.
(I also have the other boxes unchecked).

Thank you, this worked. Is there any downside to having it this way?

Dont think your default setting use a proxy server,so no.

Setting probably changed by the PC Optimizer program.

You should probably run Malwarebytes,Adaware, hitman pro, that kind of thing to make sure your totally clean.

Not to my knowledge.  As per Wolverine 7, your normal settings will have been changed, without warning, by another program. It happens to me if I use a VPN, mildly irritating, easy to remedy.
