Hey guys. I have a Samsung Chronos model NP700Z5B-S01UB. For the past 2 months, I've been getting blue screens a majority of the time that my computer tries to go to sleep. I don't know if it's because of a windows update or something but it's getting super annoying. Please help me. Here's the minidump of the last time my computer blue-screened. Thank you.

:welcome: to the Bleeping Computer.

To troubleshoot a BSOD issue, we need the actual crash dump files written by Windows and a record of event log errors. Please follow the below steps.

:step1: Upload the crash dump files.

You can find the crash dump files inside C:\Windows\Minidump folder. Copy all the files located in that folder and zip them to a single file. Disable the "User Account Control" if you encounter a permission error. We need at least a minimum of three dumps to find a pattern. Attach the zipped dump with the next reply. If the file size is larger than 512KB, upload the zipped dumps to a free file hosting site and post the download link to it.

    Example file hosting sites :

:step2: A Speccy snapshot.

"Speccy" is a free tool which is used to create a report about your system. It will list the make and model of hardware components as well as installed Windows updates, HDD SMART status etc. Please read instructions from the below link and post the web link created by "Speccy" in next reply.

:step3: Minitoolbox report.

"Minitoolbox" can list all the installed programs as well as event log errors in your system. Download "Minitoolbox" from the below link.

Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.

-List last 10 Event viewer errors
   -List installed programs
   -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size

Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply.

HI

There are multiple issues with your system. According to the SMART info collected by Speccy, your 1 TB Seagate hard drive is slowly failing.

C4 Reallocation Event Count: 252 (252) Data 0000000000
C5 Current Pending Sector Count: 100 (100) Data 0000000003

It means there is at least three bad sectors are in your hard drive. We should fix it first before troubleshooting the BSOD issue. To do that, please follow the below steps.

:step1: Backup any important data to an external medium for safety.

:step2: Download and run Seagate Seatool from the below link.

      http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/

      User guide : http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/downloads/seatools/docs/SeaTools%20for%20Windows.en-US.pdf

:step3: Select your Seagate ( ST1000LM024 HN-M101MBB )drive from the list of installed disks. Now click Basic Tests --> Fix all --> Long.  Press the F8 key when prompted to begin the scan.

:step4: Once the test is completed, select Basic tests --> Long Generic  and a full surface scan will be initialized. Report whether it shows PASSED or FAILED status. If it passes, post a new Speccy snapshot to check the SMART data.

Once the hard drive is fixed, i will post instructions to fix the BSOD issue.

Hi

Please try the DOS version of Seatools. It can be downloaded from the below link.

http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-dos-master/

Burn the image to a blank CD by following instructions from the bellow link.

http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/201431en

Now enter the BIOS setup and change  the SATA mode to AHCI to IDE. Location of this setting varies from model to model but you will find it easily as laptop BIOS setup only contains a few changeable items. Now boot from the CD and run a "Long Test" with it.

seatools-2.png

Once the scan is completed, Seatool will ask you whether to repair the bad sectors or not. Please select 'repair this and all remaining".  Report whether it passes after repairs.

Sorry it took me long to find a single blank CD. But when I reboot the computer, it says "Error reading from drive C: DOS area: general failure". Also, I don't see a way to chance from SATA to AHCI to IDE.

Hi

Some newer model laptops doesn't have the option to change SATA mode. Generally it will be present only if the machine supports "Win XP". So our options are basically limited. Please give a second try to "Seatools" Windows version. This time select Basic tests --> Fix All --> Long. Press F8 when prompted and the scan will begin.

If you can afford, replacing drive is the better thing to do.

Okay, so I'm trying the same test? Does this mean I can't fix my BSOD without fixing my hard drive first? I'm not sure I can buy another one. This computer is fairly new.

Hi

As you already know, all OS files and data are stored in the hard drive. If we didn't fix the bad sectors, the damage will slowly spread to the neighboring sectors and you may ended up with loosing all the data stored in it. Additionally the system may experience hanging, freezing , slow response etc.So please run the test according to the last instructions. I consider this issue is more important than the BSOD you are experiencing.

Your BSOD issue seems to be probably caused by the Intel WiFi driver.

>[ 16, 2] 0 0 fffffa800aa70050 00000000 00000000-00000000
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\NETwNs64.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for NETwNs64.sys
*** ERROR: Module load completed but symbols could not be loaded for NETwNs64.sys
 \Driver\NETwNs64

To fix the BSOD, please follow the below steps.

1. Uninstall the below drivers from Control Panel --> Programs.

    Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software

    Intel PROSet Wireless

    Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Bluetooth® Technology

2. Download and install the latest version from the below link.

  https://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23329/eng/BT_3.1.1309_s64.exe&lang=eng&Dwnldid=23329&ProductID=3507&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+Wi-Fi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Centrino%C2%AE+Wireless-N+2230

3. Make sure the power plan is set to "Balanced".

   http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/778-power-plan-settings-change.html

Let me know your findings in next reply.

That didn't work. But at least I feel better knowing what could be causing it. I figured it had something to do with the wireless because it only does the BSOD after sleep if I'm using the internet.

I changed the advanced power settings from Medium Power Saving to Maximum Performance. But I still got the blue screen DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE.
