The internet connection we have here isnt great to begin with. But when one of two specific computers is connected to the internet, our connection drops to almost nothing. This doesnt happen all the time, only some of the time. Disabling their connection fixes the issue. Specifically the upload speed doesnt even register according to speedtest.net, and the ping usually reaches 1500+ms. I have ran virus scans with malware bytes and a few other programs, but nothing showed up.

This started happening about a motnh appart between the two computers. But the owners of them visit similar websites. Whats the next step?

Hello JCart -

First - When was the last time you contacted your ISP, and what was their reply ?

You have not added anything along these lines yet ........

Thank You -

With the "sick computer" are you able to post back any logs ??

Try these first -

Download Security Check by Screen317 from HERE
* Save it to your Desktop.
* Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
* Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
* A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.
Note: If a security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to do so.

Please post a snapshot with Speccy for more system details -
How to Publish a snapshot with Speccy <<-- Full Directions Here

Download MiniToolBox, Save it to your desktop and run it.
Close any Firefox browsers you may have open
Now checkmark the following boxes:
• Flush DNS
• Report IE Proxy Settings
• Reset IE Proxy Settings
• Report FF Proxy Settings
• Reset FF Proxy Settings
• List content of Hosts
• List IP configuration
• List last 10 Event Viewer log
• List Installed Programs
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
• List Minidump Files
Click Go and copy / paste the result (Result.txt).

Thank You -

I am having trouble accessing one of the computers, the main one that needs to be fixed. It was temporarily replaced with a laptop and one of the cords to the monitor went missing. If I cant find it by the end of today, ill buy a replacement.

Hi -

The time of the reply is no problem, as you said it may be a day or so.

Please briefly update me on the current problem, and any other steps you have taken.

As this started as an internet / could be infected problem, just asking for updates first.

Then I have a few programs I will help you to update and fix -

Thank You -

The problem is that anytime this specific computer is on the internet, every other computer has problems accessing anything, and the connection gets real slow. According to speedtest.net, the upload speed drops drastically. Sometimes it never gets around to finishing the upload speed test. And the ping sometimes reaches several thousand ms. The download speed drops a little when it is on the network, but nothing too noticeable.

I havent done anything new with that computer other than run the programs you suggested. My gut was leaning towards perhaps some malware logging all data and sending it out. She has downloaded a few tool bars in the past but I am fairly sure I deleted them.

Oh, something I forgot until I was, the computer does have linux mint installed as well. I doubt that it would be causing any problems though. Also, windows 7 was recently reinstalled on it and the process was never finished, so it thinks that the version it has isn't genuine. It is, my brother was just too lazy to register it. But again, I don't see that causing these problems.

Hi -

The general removal of slight Malware / infections will be checked, but my concern is with the Internet Service Provider, and checking that they are supplying you with a decent service.

I would like you to phone them if you can (and remove all other computers from the line), so they can then check for service problems.

Most of these checks require internet, so please choose your best method -

Go > Control Panel > Java icon > Second tab is Update > Current is Version7 Update45, now delete all older versions in Programs and Features.

Update to ">Firefox25 as this will be a lot better, or use your Internet Explorer (again delete old F/fox versions)

Please download and run RKill by Grinler. A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear.
This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
If a log is produced, save it, or post it back here -

Important: Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step.

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
* Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
* Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
* Click on the Scan button. (only once)
* AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
* After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
* Now - Click on the Clean button. (only once)
* Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
* Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
* After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
* Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
* A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Disable your antivirus program How To Temporarily Disable Your Anti-virus
Click Run ESET Online Scanner
Accept any security warnings from your browser.
Check Scan archives
Click Start
ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer.
Please be patient as this will take quite some time.
When the scan completes, click on List of found threats
Click on Export to text file , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as "ESETScan".
Include the contents of this report in your next reply.
NOTE. If Eset doesn't find any threats it will often NOT produce any log.

Thank You -

Hi -

For all computers on that system, this will be good ......

No logs or anything, just a clean out of Temporary / Junk Files that are not needed -

Please download Temp File Cleaner by Old Timer
Usage Instructions:

  • Download TFC from the download link above and save the file on your desktop.
  • Close ALL running applications as TFC will terminate them before attempting to clean up the temporary files.
  • Double-click on the TFC icon.
  • When the program opens, click on the Start button.  TFC will terminate the Explorer process and all running applications and then begin the process of cleaning out all of your temp folders.
  • When done, press OK to reboot your computer and finish the cleanup.

Thank You -
