Hello, I've been having problems with firefox lately (v. 24): every time I open a few tabs it starts to freeze intermittently and sometimes it'll just freeze the whole computer altogether.

When I say freeze intermittently, I mean the whole computer starts hiccuping. The whole computer will freeze for about 2-3 seconds then resume, then freeze for another 2-3 seconds and resume. Usually until firefox then it stops.

It happens most often when I have flash tabs open like youtube, but it most recently happened with just my hotmail tab, and a tab for my online banking login page.

Could this be a driver conflict?

I was on chrome for more than a week and haven't had any problems, yet when I open firefox for the first time in over a week it freezes soon after I have even just a couple tabs open.

I'm not sure if it's just a particular type of stie (interactive ones) that crashes it or if it's having multiple tabs open.

Firefox also uses massive amounts of memory I've noticed. Like over a 1g for just something like 10 tabs.

Thanks for the help,

Blue

I see that you have a lot of Chrome Tabs open, does this behavior happen with Chrome as well, because I see no firefox instances up. Also do you have any addons with firefox like adblock, and stuff?

Chrome is fine; only firefox.

firefox add ons are :

adblock plus 2.4

donottrackme 2.2.29

Ghostery 5.0.4

HTTPS-Everywhere 3.4

IE tab 2 4.12

Logitech Device Detection 1.24

Session Manager 0.9

Although, I have had these add-ons for a long time now and the freezing problem, which I should have mentioned in my first, is more recent with firefox. I kept thinking it was a display driver problem since that was the most recent big change that I did with the computer... But I can't remember exactly when the problem started and when I installed the display driver.

Disable them all and see if it still happens, and then enable each one till the issue happens again. I am willing to bet its either Adblock, DontTrackMe, or https anywhere.

I am a long time user of Firefox and use it on 3 computers and have noticed the exactly same thing. Firefox seems to not be able to handle as much as it used to. Particularly with flash.  Should I start a new thread with my specs?  Under Menu > Help there is an option to restart Firefox with addons disabled which is much faster than going through every single addon and disabling.
