A few weeks ago, I installed McAfee. Ever since then, things have slowed down extremely on my computer. Despite security scans in McAfee and including a tdds scan, nothing shows up as a problem. But the computer hesitates when I type and runs extremely slow otherwise. As I stated in the header, when I have the task manager open, I see that the cpu is running at 100%.

I received some help from you guys a year or so ago, and you were amazing. Unfortunately, near the end of the process, some major events occurred in my life which overtook the process. Now I am having difficulty again with my computer.

Please help. Just tell me what you need for me to do.

Thanks eversomuch.

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer!

I am HelpBot: an automated program designed to help the Bleeping Computer Staff better assist you! This message contains very important information, so please read through all of it before doing anything.

We apologize for the delay in responding to your request for help. Here at Bleeping Computer we get overwhelmed at times, and we are trying our best to keep up. Please note that your topic was not intentionally overlooked. Our mission is to help everyone in need, but sometimes it takes just a little longer to get to every request for help. No one is ignored here.

To help Bleeping Computer better assist you please perform the following steps:

***************************************************

step1.gif In order to continue receiving help at BleepingComputer.com, YOU MUST tell me if you still need help or if your issue has already been resolved on your own or through another resource! To tell me this, please click on the following link and follow the instructions there.

CLICK THIS LINK >>> http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/logreply/511030 <<< CLICK THIS LINK

If you no longer need help, then all you needed to do was the previous instructions of telling me so. You can skip the rest of this post. If you do need help please continue with Step 2 below.

***************************************************

step2.gifIf you still need help, I would like you to post a Reply to this topic (click the "Add Reply" button in the lower right hand of this page). In that reply, please include the following information:

  • If you have not done so already, include a clear description of the problems you're having, along with any steps you may have performed so far.
  • A new DDS log. For your convenience, you will find the instructions for generating these logs repeated at the bottom of this post.
    • Please do this even if you have previously posted logs for us.
    • If you were unable to produce the logs originally please try once more.
    • If you are unable to create a log please provide detailed information about your installed Windows Operating System including the Version, Edition and if it is a 32bit or a 64bit system.
    • If you are unsure about any of these characteristics just post what you can and we will guide you.
  • Please tell us if you have your original Windows CD/DVD available.
  • Upon completing the above steps and posting a reply, another staff member will review your topic and do their best to resolve your issues.

Thank you for your patience, and again sorry for the delay.

***************************************************

We need to see some information about what is happening in your machine. Please perform the following scan again:

  • Download DDS by sUBs from the following link if you no longer have it available and save it to your destop.

    DDS.com Download Link
  • Double click on the DDS icon, allow it to run.
  • A small box will open, with an explanation about the tool. No input is needed, the scan is running.
  • Notepad will open with the results.
  • Follow the instructions that pop up for posting the results.
  • Close the program window, and delete the program from your desktop.
Please note: You may have to disable any script protection running if the scan fails to run. After downloading the tool, disconnect from the internet and disable all antivirus protection. Run the scan, enable your A/V and reconnect to the internet.

Information on A/V control can be found HERE.

As I am just a silly little program running on the BleepingComputer.com servers, please do not send me private messages as I do not know how to read and reply to them! Thanks!

Hello, and thank you for considering my problem.

1.  About a month or more, I download McAfee. About a year ago, you folks were helping me with some computer issues, near the end of the process, some personal issues came up and basically overtook the process in my life. The computer worked mostly good at that point (I know, I am sure "mostly good" makes your toes curl).

At the end of summer, the keyboard was acting funny, keys randomly not striking...all of them, numbers and spacebar as well...they would work, then not work. Tedious to type. I suspected it was my computer, not the keyboard. I still had McAfee, unloaded on my computer, so stupidly, I loaded it. Then everything went nuts. There are times when the computer is so incredible slow. I believe that there are viruses and trojans, perhaps.

The keyboard works again. Weird.

Also, before I came here I went to the microsoft help site (they first recommended me to you, and for the life of me, I could not remember this site's name, so I went there first). In the process, I download Malwarebytes and ran it. It found a lot more than McAfee ever did, though it froze near then end of the scan.

Then I contacted you folks, and w find ourselves at this point.

3. I think I have my original CDs, I'd have to scrounge around a bit. Yes, I know, rather shameful and embarrassing.  : (

Thank you in advance. Sorry to be a bother.

:welcome:

Looks like you have some bogus toolbars installed, lets do this

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  •
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

Sorry, you replied more quickly than I expected. Not that I am complaining!!!!   : )

Here is the report from Adware Cleaner, and by the way, it generated the report really quickly. I expected some lag time. Is that normal?

Here is the info., and thank you!:

  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.

thisisujrt.gif Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.

  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.

    Great

Please download Malwarebytes from Here or Here

  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • MBAMCapture.jpg
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected .
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location and post the results.
  • Note: If you receive a notice that some of the items couldn't be removed, that they have been added to the delete on reboot list, please reboot.
  • Post the report please

Yes, it does seem to be working quicker now. Thus I need to ask:

    • Is there anything else I should do?
    • Also, should I uninstall McAffee? I am not sure if it is all that beneficial. The scans I ran with it detected little, and it really seemed to bog down the computer.
    • If I do uninstall, what do you recommend I should do to keep my computer safe? What particular programs would you recommend?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

    Kris
