Try using Microsoft's Update Readiness Tool.

Thank you but I see it is for vista and I am on windows 8.   I did change it on here but maybe not soon enough to be seen.

My apologies for any confusion.

The Update Readiness Tool is built into Windows 8.

To use this go to Search and type in Commad Prompt in the Search box.

In the list of options swipe down or right click on Command Prompt, then click on Run as Administrator

The Elevated Command Prompt will open, it will look similar to the image below.

elevatedcommandpromptw7_zpseba8c499.png

Either copy and paste or type the following commands one at a time clicking on Enter after each command.

DISM.exe /Online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

DISM.exe /Online /cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Type Exit, then press Enter, this will close the command prompt window.

Restart the computer and try updating.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

AFTER doing above, would not let me type exit. Also typed Exit inWord program and tried to paste it but would not paste

by mistake I shut down instead of restarting, and for 45 minutes the message preparing to configure windows was showing. Finally powered it down, left it off for 20 seconds and restarted. Came up to a part tiled desktop and my desk top did a system restore, scanned for viruses with avast and none found

tried your suggestion again and still could not type in the word Exit.

You do not need to quote my post.

Did you press Enter after entering the two commands and allow them to run before trying to exit?
