Install vista onto new hard drive

Im trying to install windows vista onto a new hard drive and without fail it says, device driver is missing install using usb flash drive, cd etc this happens at the very beginning.  What driver am I missing.  Im using a HP compaq hp550 with a new WD blue scorpio 320gb hard drive.  The original hd was a hitachi 160gb and used windows vista basic.  Im trying to install windows home premium and tried another vista reinstall disk that covers all OS's. Help! cheers!
